Once, in an interview with Forbes, Deepinder revealed that he and Kanchan were in the same department, Mathematics and Computing. Sharing how he used to see her during classes, Deepinder admitted that he chased Kanchan for six months. When the entrepreneur was asked how he chased her, Deepinder replied, saying that he became her friend, and they started hanging out together.
After chasing her for six months, Kanchan Joshi finally got impressed with Deepinder Goyal's constant efforts and accepted his proposal. After dating each other for some years, it was in 2007 when Deepinder and Kanchan got married. The lovely couple is parents to a beautiful daughter named, Saira Goyal.
However, not many people are aware that when Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah founded Zomato, they initially named it Foodiebay. After achieving a lot of success in the coming years, the year 2011 was when the duo thought of giving their company a crisp and catchy name and agreed on the name Zomato.
Apart from this, another major reason to replace the name Foodiebay was to avoid any possible naming conflict with the American e-commerce giant, eBay. In a span of just 15 years, Zomato has become a household brand, and the only competition that it receives is from Swiggy.
Deepinder Goyal was born on January 26, 1983, in Punjab's Mukhtsar region. As per multiple sources, both his parents were teachers by profession, while his father used to teach Botany, his mother was an English teacher. Talking about the educational qualification of Zomato's founder, he completed his schooling at DAV College, Chandigarh. For graduation, Deepinder took admission in the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, where he attained a degree in Mathematics and Computing.

After completing his graduation, Deepinder Goyal joined Bain and Company, Gurgaon and worked there for three long years. During his time in the company, Deepinder decided to try his luck in business after he saw a significant demand for menu cards among people.
The idea was to form a portal featuring some of the best restaurants, cafes, and food joints where people can order their favourite food. It was indeed a risky move, but Deepinder and his Bain and Company colleague, Pankaj Chaddah, believed in their vision and started their company by the name Foodiebay, and the rest is history.

According to multiple reports, back in 2021, Zomato's founder, Deepinder Goyal had a net worth of around Rs. 2000 crore. However, it took a giant jump, as in 2024, various sources reported that Deepinder's net worth is around Rs. 2570 crore.
