Zeenat Aman Failed To Recognise Famous Fashion Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, 'I Spluttered Apology'

Bollywood's veteran actress, Zeenat Aman, has been hailed as the evergreen style icon, courtesy of her comeback as a fashion diva. The actress often shares her life anecdotes on Instagram, and recently, she revealed her first meeting with India's famous bridal designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who has given Indian lehengas a new life across the world. 

Zeenat Aman recalled her first meeting with Sabyasachi Mukherjee and how she failed to recognise him

On August 29, 2025, Zeenat Aman took to her Instagram handle and posted two pictures while posing on the terrace of her apartment. The gorgeousness was dressed up in a pretty red-hued top, which was none other than Sabyasachi Mukherjee's collection. However, she shared a hilarious anecdote from her first unexpected meeting with Sabysachi Mukherjee.

Zeenat Aman, in her beautiful explained how she was at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace in November 2022. She was there for her son's birthday, and she was there to celebrate the day with high tea at the lovely Sea Lounge. Her children were downstairs, window shopping at the designer boutiques. She wrote:

"I pulled out this red top to wear for our casual photo shoot on the terrace of my apartment building, and an incident came to mind. You may enjoy this story…November 2022. It was @zanuski’s birthday and we had celebrated with high tea at the lovely Sea Lounge in The Taj Mahal Palace hotel in town. The boys had already made their way to the ground floor to window-shop at the designer boutiques, while @carapiranha and I were taking things at a more leisurely pace."

Zeenat Aman further revealed that she was heading towards the elevator when the doors were about to close, and a hand reached out, causing the door to reopen. Inside the elevator, two well-dressed men entered, and one of them was Sabyasachi Mujherjee. She revealed that two men recognised her, but she still had no idea who they were. Zeenat Aman further wrote:

"One was a bearded Indian man, and the other I suspect was of caucasian descent. I smiled my thanks as we entered, and observed from their body language that they had recognised me. Cara jabbed the button for the lobby, and the bearded man spoke. “Ma’am, I’m a big fan of yours. It's an honour to meet you. I just want to say you have inspired me since I was a boy."

Zeenat Aman further shared that one of the bearded men softly stated that he is a big fan of hers, and it was an honour to meet her, as she had inspired him since he was a boy. The actress thanked the man for his appreciation, and he revealed that he is a fashion designer. After which, she apologised for not being able to recognise him. She concluded the post by writing:

"I thanked him for his generous words, and he explained to me that he was a designer. As the elevator dinged to a halt, I asked him: “What is your name?" “Sabyasachi" he said with a demure smile, politely taking my hand as I spluttered an apology for not recognising him. The two men walked away, and Cara and I looked at each other before bursting into laughter at my gaffe."
