Previously, she was reported to be suffering from some age-related ailments. Following her demise, public interest in her life and career has skyrocketed. Fans have been revisiting details of her tumultuous marriage to Sanjay Khan and his infamous affair with Zeenat Aman. Amid that, Sanjay and Zarine's son, Zayed Khan, 's comments on the affair's aftermath have resurfaced.

Zayed Khan broke silence on his father, Sanjay Khan's affair with Zeenat Aman

The past affair between Bollywood veterans, Sanjay Khan and Zeenat Aman, is one for the books. For the unversed, Sanjay Khan and Zeenat Aman began an affair around 1978 while working on the film, Abdullah. At that time, Sanjay Khan was already married to his first wife, Zarine Khan, who was pregnant with their son, Zayed Khan. The affair, though short-lived, left a lasting impact on Zarine and her children. During a 2024 Zoom interview, Zayed addressed his father, Sanjay Khan's, relationship with Zeenat Aman, describing the Bollywood industry in the 1970s and 1980s as wild.

Zayed's words hinted at a hidden pain about the kind of lifestyle Bollywood heroes led back then. He noted that affairs were common in that era. He pointed out that it wasn't just his father, Sanjay, who had cheated on his mother, Zarine, but rather a tale of countless Sanjays and Zarines. It highlighted a broader pattern of disloyalty of the B-town stars, beyond the glitz and glam of the silver screen. Zayed also recalled the industry's party culture and how it was preferred over family time. Mentioning the actors' designer outfits concealing their dark interiors, Zayed told Zoom:

"It wasn't just at my dad's house, but was happening in every actor's house. Every person was highly eccentric except one or two oddballs who were really sincere and grounded; the rest of them… phew! When I was young, I used to see these guys partying and dressing up in those jazzy Versace shirts and their things. It was a whole different era back then. They were real personalities."

About Sanjay Khan and Zeenat Aman's infamous affair

Zeenat Aman and Sanjay Khan had a brief and tumultuous marriage that lasted less than a year, from December 1978 to November 1979. Their relationship, which began on the sets of the film Abdullah, was controversial as Sanjay didn't divorce his first wife, Zarine Khan, at the time. Sanjay and Zeenat were married in a private ceremony in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, with only two witnesses. The relationship ended within a year following a widely reported incident of physical assault at Mumbai's Taj hotel, which many reports suggest left Zeenat Aman with a permanent injury to her right eye.

Zeenat Aman's co-star, Deepak Parashar, and other sources have confirmed that Sanjay Khan was physically violent on multiple occasions. Zeenat Aman herself later referred to this period as a distinctly unpleasant chapter that she mentally obliterated. The assault caused severe damage to Zeenat Aman's eye, resulting in a condition called ptosis (drooping eyelid). The injury obstructed her vision for over 40 years until medical advancements allowed her to have corrective surgery recently.

Zeenat Aman has spoken about the incident as a traumatic, albeit brief, chapter of her life. Sanjay Khan has repeatedly denied the abuse allegations, even in his autobiography, and claimed the eye condition was hereditary. Sanjay called the allegations' blasphemy' and a 'one-sided PR attack'. Notably, Zeenat Aman did not file a police report at the time, reportedly because she was deeply in love with Sanjay. After the breakup, Zeenat Aman married Mazhar Khan in 1985. Sanjay Khan remained married to Zarine Khan, who had given him an ultimatum after he had an affair with Zeenat.
