Zaira Wasim had been one of the most sought-after child artists from 2016 to 2019. When many acclaimed actors fail to match the acting prowess of Bollywood superstar, Aamir Khan, Zaira gave equally outstanding performances opposite him in not one but two films. However, after three back to back hits, the then-child artist left the acting world abruptly. Here's the reason behind why Zaira Wasim quit Bollywood at the top of her career.
Zaira Wasim made her debut in 2016 in the film Dangal. She essayed the role of Geeta Phogat in the sports biopic that depicted the lives of the Phogat sisters. Zaira shared the screen with Aamir Khan, and the film not only became a blockbuster but also broke international box office records.
Although, this film made her a popular face of the industry, it was the 2017 film, Secret Superstar, where Zaira's acting made people believe that she was a future super-star in the making. Zaira dominated the screens even though Aamir Khan was also a key figure in the story. The child artist was nominated for numerous awards following her success with Dangal and Secret Superstar. Everything was working well for Zaira, she had even won the National Child Awards, when she announced her retirement from film at the top of her career.
Zaira Wasim's third film, The Sky Is Pink starring Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra, had just completed its shooting process in June 2019, and the child actress was also seen in wrap up party. However, a few days after that Zaira took to her social media and announced that she was leaving the acting world at the age of 18. In an extensive note that she posted on June 30, 2019, Zaira stated that her career as an actress had interfered with her faith. It had brought a lot of applause her way, but it had also strayed her from her imaan (faith), and she had gone on a path of ignorance. A part of Zaira's note read:
"This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of 'imaan'. While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my 'imaan', my relationship with my religion was threatened."

Zaira expressed that for the five years that she worked in the industry she found it hard to balance her peace, faith and her relationship with God. Zaira mentioned that she had been battling her soul even though it didn't feel right to her to continue working in the industry. Hence, at eighteen years old, Zaira Wasim left Bollywood after five very successful years in the industry. Talking about the first step that she was taking in the direction of realisation and being closer to her faith, Zaira stated in her note:
"This is just my first step as I have arrived at the clarity of realisation of the path I wish to be on and strive for and during this time I may have consciously or unconsciously planted a seed of temptation in the hearts of many, but my sincere advice to everyone is that no amount of success, fame, authority or wealth is worth trading or losing your peace or the light of your 'imaan' for."
Post her retirement, Zaira was seen on the screen for one last time in September 2019, in the film The Sky Is Pink, which was shot before she took the decision to quit. It was her third and last film. After leaving Bollywood, Zaira also took on the niqab and hasn't shown her face since the last six years. Recently, on October 17, 2025, Zaira took to her Instagram and announced her marriage. However, nothing is yet known about who her husband is.
