Zach Ertz's wife, Julie Johnston, is a renowned pro soccer player

Zach and Julie are the power couple of the sports world. While Zach is a National Football League player, Julie is a former professional soccer player. She was a National Women's Soccer League star and played for the Angel City FC. Julie was also part of the U.S. women's national team that won the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019. She is also the recipient of the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019. Taking to his Instagram, Zach had shown his support to Julie when she won the World Cup along with her team, and wrote:

"So proud of my baby @juliejohnston2! Such an amazing journey and now World Cup Champions! Great to be a part of it all! #Champs #USA."

Julie Johnston and Zach Ertz met in college and were in a long-distance relationship

Julie and Zach are college sweethearts. The sports couple met for the first time at a baseball game at Stanford University. The couple met in 2012, while Zach was playing football for Stanford and Julie was a soccer player for Santa Clara University. Soon after, they had to be in a long-distance relationship as the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Zach, and she joined the Chicago Red Stars.

Following Julie's World Cup victory in 2015, Zach proposed to her. The NFL player proposed to Julie at the baseball stadium where they had met for the first time. After a year-long engagement, the couple tied the knot in 2017. Their wedding had motifs from their respective sports throughout. The wedding cake was decorated with edible footballs and soccer balls. Meanwhile, the ring bearer and the flower girl at Zach and Julie's wedding sported the couple's team jerseys. The same year, Julie shared in an interview with ESPN:

"I think it's a lot easier for me to watch Zach play football than it is for his other family members, just because I know how much he loves the sport and how hard he works at it. The closer I sit, when I hear more of the pads banging against each other, my heart races a little bit. But I just want him to succeed and do what he loves."

Julie and Zach share three sons. Their first baby was born in August 2022, and the couple named him Madden Matthew. A year after welcoming their bundle of joy, Julie announced her retirement from soccer. Then in 2024, the Ertzs expanded their family with the couple announcing that they welcomed twin baby boys, Kace and Kyren. When Julie retired during the World Cup 2023, she read a letter her husband had written to her on camera. His letter said:

"Julie, here we go. World Cup number three. While the destination is the same, the path has been quite different. Less than a year ago, you gave birth to the biggest blessing in our lives, Madden. Watching you become a mom has been one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced in our time together. Madden and I are so excited for you and cannot wait to see you do your thing out on the pitch. We love you so much."
