War 2 teaser grabbed attention with action between Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR and Kaira Advani’s stylish appearance. While some fans focused on the stylish teaser, some fans went deeper and observed the same, copy-pasted poster of YRF’s Spy Universe.
Across platforms like Reddit, fans have noticed this pattern. All the major films of YRF’s Spy Universe seem to follow the same visuals and same path. From Ek Tha Tiger to Tiger 3, War, Pathan and now War 2, the layout, colour tone, visuals and even the expression of the actors, everything seems similar. It feels like the same poster but a different movie.
Across social media platforms, fans compiled side-by-side comparisons of posters from Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2. Fans observed similarities like intense close up of actors with same expression, similar backgrounds, same title font and placement and desaturated colour palette with mostly grey and blue. The lack of variation made users ask, “Is there a poster generator tool called SpyVersePoster.ai?”
Consistency is believed to be important in branding, especially in a cinematic universe but many feel that there is an extent to that. Lately, it seems that YRF has relied too much on a single style guide. Posters are generally the first visual impressions of a film’s tone and identity choosing the same style can fail to interest the audience.
Many fans believe that the YRF Spy Universe has slipped into a creative rut, with similar plotlines and character relationships repeated throughout multiple films. While previous films, like Ek Tha Tiger and War, were praised for their creativity, recent films are being criticised for forced cameos, repetitive action sequences, neglected female characters, and moralistic themes. The emotional subplots, particularly the Indo-Pakistan peace theme, are now considered overused. Fans are also disappointed with War 2, as they expected it to provide something new after Tiger 3's tease, but instead believe it will return to the same predictable formula that has defined recent films.

With disappointment increasing more and more with time, users started creating their own poster of War 2, which eventually got more appreciation than the official poster.
While debates on the poster and storytelling was going on, a few users broadened the debate by talking about who is creatively responsible for this. Many fans feel that what started as a series of uniquely directed films has slowly turned into a formula-driven brand. Who can be blamed here? One user pointed out:
“Until Pathaan, each film had a different style — Ek Tha Tiger was Kabir Khan’s harsh reality, Tiger Zinda Hai was Ali Abbas Zafar’s big-action take, War brought in Siddharth Anand’s amazing theme. But with Tiger 3 and now War 2, everything is copying Anand’s formula. They even have the same writer. That’s the real issue.”
This also raises another issue, is YRF Spyverse turning into a brand more than cinema? The increasing reliance on similar aesthetics, same storylines and celebrity cameos may be turning the YRF Spy Universe into a product rather than art. While brand-building is important in today’s film economy, the heart of cinema still lies in storytelling, characters and new experiences. If every film continues to look the same and deliver the same story again and again, even loyal fans might start losing interest.
With War 2 ready to hit the big screen on August 14, 2025, YRF is gearing up for its upcoming action film. After this, YRF is planning to release a female-led spy movie, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol. Amidst all the debate around similar plotlines, fans still have high hopes that Alpha may finally break the pattern, not just by being female-led, but possibly by introducing a new setting, tone and visual identity. The cast is promising and the genre has space for innovation.
Building a movie universe is exciting, but it also brings the challenge of keeping things fresh. The YRF Spy Universe has done well at the box office, but many fans now feel that the same poster styles and similar storylines are being used again and again. With War 2 and Alpha lined up, let's hope for something different, fresh and exciting. This is a chance to keep the Spyverse alive.
