A Chilling Repeat Of Meerut Murder: Woman And Her Lover Strangle And Dump Husband's Body In Haridwar

The brutal murder of ex-merchant navy officer, Saurabh Rajput by his wife, Muskan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla has shocked the nation. In a chillingly similar case, Haridwar is reeling from another gruesome crime. This time, the victim, Sukhpal, was allegedly lured to his death by his wife, Ritu Kaur, and her lover, Ritik Singh, under the pretext of visiting family, only to be strangled to death in a cold-blooded plot.

Wife and her lover conspire and kill 40-year-old sevadar in Haridwar

Ritu Kaur (38) and her lover Ritik Singh (35) have been arrested for the brutal murder of the former's husband, Sukhpal Singh (40), a sevadar at a gurdwara in Amritsar. As per police reports, Ritu and Ritik were in an illicit relationship for nearly two years, which began at a gurdwara in Rishikesh. When Sukhpal grew suspicious of his wife’s activities, the duo allegedly conspired to kill him and clear the way to start a new life together.

Sukhpal happily walked into the deadly trap

So, how did the accused, Ritu and Ritik, lure Sukhpal to his death? According to their confession to the police, Ritu called her husband to their home in Laksar, telling him that some of her relatives were visiting. Trusting his wife, Sukhpal arrived at the Laksar bus stand, where Ritik was already waiting with a car as per their plan. After picking him up, they drove to meet Ritu at the Laksar railway station. What happened next was premeditated and cold-blooded. As per police reports, Ritik allegedly got Sukhpal drunk during the drive. Later, he strangled him using a bedsheet, as Ritu watched on. The duo then disposed of his body near an irrigation canal in Shahpur village and fled the scene.

The investigation and swift arrest

On March 18, 2025, Sukhpal’s body was found near Shahpurmadi. After identification, police sent it for post-mortem. On March 19, 2025,  his brother, Pawan filed a complaint, and a murder case was registered. SSP Pramod Singh Dobal ordered swift action. Police launched an investigation using digital evidence, CCTV footage, and technical surveillance to find the accused. During the investigation, suspicion fell on Sukhpal’s wife, Ritu. 

On March 20, 2025, police detained Ritu and her Ritik separately and recovered the murder vehicle. Police have seized the vehicle used in the crime, and both Ritu and Ritik remain in judicial custody as investigations continue. Their confessions during interrogation were shocking. SP (Rural) Shekhar Chand Suyal revealed:

"The post-mortem report revealed he was strangled, after which police started the probe. His wife Ritu's role was found suspicious, but she was trying to misguide the police as well as her family. Finally, we arrested Ritik, and during interrogation, he accepted the crime. The murder plan was hatched by Ritu, and he executed the plan by killing her husband."

About Ritu and Ritik’s illicit affair

Investigation reports revealed that Ritu and Ritik had been secretly involved for two years. Despite being 10 years younger, Ritik was allegedly eager to marry Ritu. Together, they planned Sukhpal’s murder to claim his ancestral property through Ritu’s two children and begin a new life together.

This case comes on the heels of the brutal murder of a merchant navy officer in Meerut, where his wife and her lover allegedly killed him in cold blood. The Haridwar case bears eerie similarities, with both women luring their unsuspecting husbands to their deaths, driven by illicit affairs.
