'Wicked' Costars Cynthia Erivo And Ariana Grande Address 'Touching' Incidents Amid Dating Rumours

The Wicked movies, both parts one and two, received a lot of love after their release. However, people aren't really holding space for the interactions between the stars of the film, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Their bizarre interactions during the press tours, with a lot of crying and touching, have raised eyebrows. Amid this, both Cynthia and Ariana have addressed their continuous displays of affection.

Cynthia Erivo called Wicked co-star, Ariana Grande her sister

Amid rumours going around that Cynthia and Ariana might be more than friends after their constant seemingly platonic PDA, the former referred to the singer as a sister. In an interview with NBC News, the 'Elphaba' actress stated that she and Ariana were like sisters. Cynthia was quoted as saying:

"This is a long-lasting friendship for us; we're kind of like sisters at this moment in time, you know? And I think we've both learnt from each other and given each other some really, really beautiful gifts. We've really looked after each other through this."

Cynthia also addressed Ariana's recent encounter with a supposedly 'crazy fan' in Singapore. For the unversed, at the special premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore, Ariana Grande was jumped by an influencer named Johnson Wen, a.k.a 'Pyjama Man', who is widely known for similar incidents with international stars. When the influencer grabbed onto Ariana, scaring her, Cynthia quickly jumped into the scene and came between the two, pushing Johnson Wen away. He was then taken away by the security personnel at the scene. Cynthia opened up about the incident and said:

"I wasn't really thinking, I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe, you know? I'm sure he didn't mean us harm; you just never know with those things, and I wanted to make sure that she was okay. That was my first instinct."

Ariana Grande explains why she and Cynthia Erivo keep touching each other

The press tours of the Wicked franchise have become a part of pop culture. Ariana and Cynthia have been giving people a lot of meme content with their bizarre interactions. The costars seem to be joined at the hip, holding each other's hands, crying in interviews together at the drop of a hat and more. There are two of the most talked-about interactions between the costars. In one, Cynthia seemed to be adjusting the placement of Ariana's necklace while she was giving an interview. However, there was nothing wrong with the necklace in the first place.

The second incident is the one where Ariana Grande held onto Cynthia's pointer with her own fingers when she started to get emotional. This moment came across as quite absurd to people. Amy Poehler asked the 'Glinda' actress about the constant touching between her and Cynthia in the Good Hang podcast. Ariana addressed the mentioned moment and shared:

"I channel a lot of energy through my hands, and so I'm always holding a hand, I'm always squeezing something. I like to channel support and energy... I didn't even notice it was a thing until that thing happened."
