Saina Nehwal Breaks Silence On Why She Announced Divorce From Parupalli Kashyap, 'Fights Hote'

India's star badminton player, Saina Nehwal, had announced her divorce from her long-time husband, Parupalli Kashyap, on July 13, 2025. The couple married in 2018 after being together for 7 years. However, after announcing separation, she then announced 'trying again' to save her marriage. Now, Saina Nehwal for the first time shared why she had made the decision to divorce her husband, Parupalli Kashyap.

Saina Nehwal shares why she had announced separation from Parupalli Kashyap post 7 years of marriage

For the unversed, Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap trained and had created their badminton careers at the Pullela Gopichand academy located in Hyderabad. Things turned choppy in July 2025 when the couple announced their separation. Saina revealed that the decision to divorce was painful. This was because, after they retired from Badminton, Saina and Parupalli started having different mindsets. She shared in an interview with FilmyGyan:

"I think bahut difficult tha woh decision, you know it was not easy because sometimes after badminton, dono ki likings alag hai, dono ka alag mindset hoh gaya hai."

Saina Nehwal reveals fights used to happen between her and Parupalli Kashyap

Saina at one hand had become a global star as she clinched on the Olympic bronze and also the World No. 1 ranking. Parupalli created his legacy at the Commonwealth Games, winning gold, and had a strong international performance. However, in the couple's personal lives, both of them used to fight. Saina shared how Parupalli became a coach post-retirement, and when both were at home, a lot of fights took place. She shared:

"Woh hota hai because you have spent so many years only in court, and suddenly, after so many years, you have left playing and become a coach. Kashyap is a coach now, we felt shayad kuch alag chal raha hai and we were not liking joh usko pasand hai, mujhe pasand nai hai and all these things we were thinking ki theek nai chal raha ho. So uske wajah se beech mei I am sure fights joh hote hai hone lage,. Set nai hora hai hum separate hoh jate hai."

Saina's husband, Parupalli, had become the first Indian male player to make a mark at the Olympic Games quarterfinals back in the 2012 edition held in London. However, he and Saina faced a rough marriage as earlier in a joint post she wrote about how life took her and Parpalli on different paths. Her earlier divorce note read:

"Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We're choosing peace, growth, and healing for ourselves and each other. I'm grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time."

After announcing her divorce, Saina Nehwal surprised her fans by sharing a snap with Parupalli from some undisclosed, serene locale. She shared of how the distance made both realise the importance of togetherness and hence they gave love another chance. That is how Saina and Parupalli saved their marriage, for they 'tried again'. Their fans were the happiest knowing about the same.
