Mel Owens is currently starring on The Golden Bachelor as an eligible single on a quest to find love. Surrounded by 23 charming women on the dating reality show, he's set to discover 'the one'. Season 2 of the show, featuring the 66-year-old retired NFL linebacker-turned-attorney, had a dramatic premiere on September 24, 2025. The inaugural episode mirrored Mel Owens' personal life, which also had its fair share of drama, particularly surrounding his ex-wife and their divorce. Although the ex-spouses aren't on friendly terms, Mel believes that she might be secretly watching his show.
The former NFL player and star of The Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens, is looking for a partner to spend his post-divorce life with. In the inaugural episode of his dating show, he shared some of his personal life updates, including some insights about his separation from his ex-wife, Fabiana Pimentel, that took place in 2020. During a recent interview with Us Weekly, he was asked if he believed Fabiana secretly watched his show. To that, the sports lawyer gave a cheeky response.
He said that his two children, Lucas and Andre, informed him that their mother didn't tune in to the first episode of The Golden Bachelor. However, he took a fun jab at her, saying 'everybody's peeking'. He further shared that he himself would be doing so if he were in her place. His reaction might hint at the typical healthy stalking ex-lovers often engage in after a breakup. As it has been about a year since the couple's official separation, there may be a desire to know about each other's whereabouts and current partners. Mel Owens' response to the question was:
"I don't know, but my boys told me, like, 'Oh, she's not gonna be watching.' But everybody's peeking. I'd be watching [if I was her]! Everybody's peeking."
Mel Owens' remark regarding his belief that his ex-wife might be secretly checking out his show came a few days after Fabiana Pimentel issued a public statement indicating she doesn't want to be involved with the show. She was asked by The Daily Mail about her thoughts regarding Mel Owens' participation in The Golden Bachelor. Fabiana responded that she didn't think it would be a good venture, but regardless, she didn't want to comment any further, nor did she want her name associated with the show. She said:
"Good luck. I mean, it's going to be bad. But anyway, I don't want to be involved in this."
During the opening monologue of The Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens shared that the reason for the end of their 25 years of marriage was his ex-wife, Fabiana 'falling for someone else'. The divorce proceedings lasted for five years before being finalised in December 2024. Previously, it was known to the public that the duo had some 'irreconcilable differences', which led to their divorce. However, this narrative of Fabiana was refuted by Mel's statements regarding a probable infidelity angle. Now, the duo has moved on in their respective lives, with Mel giving love a second chance on the reality show.

The inaugural episode opened with an apology by Mel Owens regarding his past comment about his dating preferences. He previously said that he preferred dating women between 45 and 60 years old, and said, "If they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them." He also wanted to date women who were fit and did not have 'artificial hips and wigs'. These generated a negative image of him, and he also faced confrontation from the show's contestants regarding it. He apologised to them, and they decided to give him a chance to change himself.
