Why Is D4vd Not Arrested? Legal Experts Reveal After Celeste Rivas, 15, Was Found Dead In His Car

The tragic death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas has put rising rapper D4vd under intense public scrutiny. It started when the missing girl's remains were discovered in his abandoned Tesla earlier this month. The case that has gripped Los Angeles and spread across social media. As many similarities hinting that they knew each other have come to the forefront, many are now questioning why the 20-year-old artist has not been taken into custody. Amid the investigation by authorities, legal experts are now offering clarity on the situation.

Why has D4vd not been arrested in the Celeste Rivas case? 

As new hints about D4vd's alleged link with Celeste Rivas came up, there is an uproar among netizens about why investigators have not charged him. But the answer lies in the 'legal requirement of probable cause'. Legal experts reveal that just the ownership of the vehicle and online speculation are not enough to put D4vd behind bars. ABC News legal contributor Brian Buckmire explained on Good Morning America that authorities are still awaiting critical autopsy results before any decisions can be made. In his words:

"Law enforcement does not have the answers they need to be able to confront or question D4vd. Without a confirmed cause and manner of death, there is no legal ground for an arrest."

Meanwhile, officials have already searched a residence connected to the musician and seized electronic devices. Yet the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) continues to classify the matter as a death investigation rather than a homicide. Experts believe that a premature arrest without solid evidence could weaken the case in court. Another legal analyst told NBC news;

"Detaining a high-profile figure without sufficient proof risks dismissal later."

D4vd and Celeste Rivas' alleged discord controversy

The case has become more complex after a person claiming to moderate D4vd's Discord server and Twitch channel has spoken out. In a message to server members, the admin insisted they were unaware of Celeste's true age or that she was reported missing. The moderator claimed Celeste appeared to be around 18 or 19 and had even joined two of D4vd's livestreams. The message also stated that moderators had "minimal contact with David or his management." However, a spokesperson for Twitch told TMZ that the statement was not released on the platform's behalf, aggravating the mystery. 

What do we know about the case so far? 

The case began on September 8, when neighbors in Los Angeles reported a foul odor coming from an abandoned Tesla. Police later confirmed the car was registered to D4vd. During their investigation, they found human remains, which were later identified as Celeste Rivas through forensic testing and a distinctive "Shh…" tattoo on her leg. According to NBC News, her body was not intact when found. While her mother told TMZ, she was dating some 'David' before she went missing and the singer's real name is David raising speculations. Celeste was reported missing in April 2024, and D4vd's representative confirms he is "fully cooperating" with investigators and has called the US and Europe legs of his tour amid the investigation.
