MTV has officially pulled the plug on one of its longest-running and most recognizable shows, Ridiculousness. The show's end marks the end of an era for the network. The comedy clip show, featuring Rob Dyrdek, has been an integral part of MTV's programming since the network's debut in August 2011. Now, after 15 years, 46 seasons, and nearly 1,700 episodes, the show has decided to end, hinting at a major shift in its content direction for the future.
According to Variety and TMZ, MTV's top leadership decided to cancel Ridiculousness directly. For the unaware, the network recently merged with Paramount Skydance. Some inside sources revealed that the cast and crew were informed earlier this week that the current season would be their last. Although the already produced episodes would continue to air till 2026, no new ones will be film. The shooting had reportedly stopped in July 2025 and was expected to resume in January 2026. But the authorities decided to stop the filming. Sources cite that the decision is part of the network's plan to "reimagine MTV for the future."

Notably, the management has implemented company-wide layoffs. The cancellation marks the end of a major chapter for MTV, as Ridiculousness has practically dominated the schedule for several years now. It used to occupy more than half of the channel's daily lineup and ran in marathon blocks. However, despite its lasting popularity, MTV's new management has decided to steer away from its repetitive format. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the network's parent company, Paramount Skydance, is now focusing on offering a more "curated and experimental" slate of programming similar to the network's early creative years, when it gained fame for taking bold risks with the content.

Beyond Ridiculousness, TMZ reported that MTV has plans to explore more 'fresh formats' and different creative voices with new programming. However, shows like The Challenge, RuPaul's Drag Race, and Jersey Shore: Family Vacation are expected to continue. Meanwhile, the end of Ridiculousness will create space for introducing more new and innovative projects. Incidentally, the show's writing team had unionized with the Writers Guild of America West in 2025, which was supported by the show's host.

For several years now, Ridiculousness has become a daily part of the lives of regular MTV viewers. It used to define MTV's late-night and daytime hours. It was hosted by Rob Dyrdek, along with Sterling "Steelo" Brim and Lauren "Lolo" Wood. The team even featured Chanel West Coast, who co-hosted for 12 years before bidding a farewell to it in 2023. Ridiculousness used to focus on viral internet fails, celebrity reactions, and comic commentary, providing audiences with their daily dose of entertainment.
