Dharmendra, Bollywood's 'He-Man', passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89 due to age-related ailments and heart complications. He died at his residence in Mumbai after a prolonged period of health issues that included several hospital visits and battles with life-threatening situations. The Sholay actor's funeral was held at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai, attended by his family, a large number of friends, and film industry acquaintances. Following his demise, netizens have been wondering who shall inherit his massive crores-worth fortune. The curiosity arises particularly because of Dharmendra's two wives and families.
Dharmendra's wealth, estimated between Rs. 400 and Rs. 450 crore, primarily comprises a luxurious Mumbai bungalow and a 100-acre farmhouse in Lonavala. The Lonavala property is a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and was the place where Dharmendra resided with his first wife, Prakash Kaur. The property features dense greenery, fields, and a serene lake. The late actor often shared glimpses of his life there, showing himself farming, surrounded by his pets (dogs and horses), and enjoying a peaceful, grounded lifestyle. Besides the beautiful farmhouse, Dharmendra's empire included a luxurious bungalow in a prime location in Mumbai.

Dharmendra's real estate portfolio included multiple residential and commercial properties in Maharashtra valued at over Rs. 17 crore, along with other agricultural and non-agricultural land holdings. Dharmendra also ventured into the hospitality business with the popular Garam Dharam dhaba chain and another restaurant, He-Man, in Haryana. The actor also had a notable collection of luxury cars and headed the film production house, Vijayta Films.

Bollywood legend, Dharmendra's entire fortune, estimated at around Rs. 400-450 crore, is expected to be divided equally among his six children. His kids include two sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol, and two daughters, Ajeeta and Vijeta, from his first marriage, and his two more daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol, from his second marriage with Hema Malini. Equal division will only be possible if Dharmendra died without a will, according to Indian inheritance law. Regarding his two wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, the equal division of assets is uncertain.

A Delhi High Court advocate, Kamlesh Kumar Mishra, in a conversation with ABP News, suggested that while all six children of Dharmendra have a claim on his property, Hema Malini may not automatically inherit a share if his first marriage with Prakash Kaur was still legally valid. His first wife might have a claim as the legally recognised spouse. It is because Hindu law does not support polygamy and recognises only one legal marriage. Some earlier reports claimed that Dharmendra and Hema converted to Islam to get married, even though he was still legally married to Prakash. If that is indeed true, then Hindu law will not apply to Hema.

During a 2022 interview with India Today, Hema Malini addressed the criticism and public perception of her decision to marry an already married Dharmendra. By emphasising her lack of interest in his money or property, she shared that her primary focus was on their emotional bond and that she had no intention of disrupting his existing family life or household. Hema expressed that all she needed was Dharmendra's love and presence as a supportive husband and father to their daughters, Esha and Ahana. Hema stated:
"There was a time when I had to tell him [Dharmendra], 'you better marry me now'. You cannot go on like this. I knew there would be a little problem but I don't expect anything else from him. Just love. He's always there for me so what else do I need. I don't need property or money or anything else from him. I just need some love. That's it."
