Who Died In 'Mayor Of Kingstown' Season 4 Finale? Jeremy Renner Makes A Shocking Revelation

Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 finale is here, and it is beyond anything that fans expected from the show. The makers have brought some twists and turns that will forever haunt the viewers. However, according to Jeremy Renner, the death of a very important character in the season finale plays a crucial role in setting the stage for Season 5.

Who died in Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 finale?

The Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 finale has aired on Paramount+, leaving fans stunned by the show's turn. For Jeremy Renner, the finale has laid the foundation for the upcoming path, as he shared that for him, no one could've killed 'Merle Callahan' (Richard Brake) other than 'Kyle McLusky' (Taylor Handley). The actor who headlines the show as town power broker, 'Mike McLusky' has made some shocking revelations to Entertainment Weekly.

During the conversation, Jeremy revealed that while his character had plenty of reasons to want to kill 'Merle', it was ultimately more important to let his brother 'Kyle' be the one to pull the trigger. Why? Well, it was an important decision because 'Merle' murdered the latter's wife, 'Tracy' (Nishi Munshi). He was quoted as saying:

"That’s one way to sort of… not really protect, but help forge a path for healing because of what [Merle] did. There was no other pathway."

Jeremy Renner reveals how the makers planned the end of Mayor of Kingstown Season 4

After escaping Anchor Bay, 'Merle' found and killed 'Tracy'. While he surrendered himself at the local police station, 'Captain Walter' (Rob Kirkland) gives 'Detective Ian Ferguson' (Hugh Dillon) carte blanche to do with 'Merle' as he sees fit. Which leads him to drive the escaped convict to a showdown with the 'McLuskys' at the railroad tracks. Once 'Kyle' sees the man who murdered his wife, he shoots him and is overwhelmed with emotions, as he continues to fire at his dead body, prompting 'Mike' to step in.

'Mike' takes the weapon away from his younger brother before he could hurt himself or anyone else. However, the siblings make it only a few feet away from the grisly crime scene before 'Kyle' completely breaks down and begins to sob in 'Mike's' arms. A heartbreaking ending to the story that left fans reaching for tissues as well. Jeremy Renner reflected on how the makers decided on the ending for the arc and stated:

"The beautiful end of it all is at least they [Mike and Kyle] have each other. That was something I really had to fight for [at] the end of this show. It was very, very, very important to at least give the audience that. Give them something good. The beautiful part for us is the release of that toxic character and then the two brothers falling into each other — and at least they have each other through it all. So that’s some kind of hope, right?"

Will 'Merel's' death at 'Kyle's' hand shape the next season of Mayor of Kingstown?

Mike spent the majority of Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 trying to protect his brother, 'Kyle' from harm, while being locked at Anchor Bay. However, he could not shield him from the death of 'Tracy's' death, putting his once-upstanding younger brother on a dark quest for vengeance against her killer. While it has been a tragic season for 'Kyle' and 'Mike', now the question is: how will they move forward from this? Well, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that Mayor of Kingstown gets greenlit for a fifth season to find out.
