The Malayalam film industry woke up to the shocking news of one of its finest actors, Kalabhavan Navas’ untimely death. The actor, who started his career as a mimic in stage shows, has managed to tickle people’s funny bones with his impeccable comic timing. Navas started his career with the film, Mimics Action 500, in 1995, and since then, there has been no looking back for him.
Born in a village of Wadakkancherry, Kalabhavan Navas was always inclined to films and often visited shots. His father, Aboobacker, is a veteran actor in the Malayalam industry, who has worked in films like Vaalsalyam, Sallapam, Keli, Venkalam and a few others. Since his father had limited roles in films, the family’s earnings were meagre and Navas faced a lot of financial crunches during his childhood.
Navas and his brother, Niyas, performed skits at the artists' camp. Navas later joined Kalabhavan and started doing professional mimicry shows. His brother, Niyas, is also a comedian and is seen in many TV shows and films.
Not many people know this, but Kalabhavan Navas is married to popular Malayalam actress, Rehana. Rehana has worked in films like Andolanam, Dada Sahib, Lelam and a few others. It was Navas’ brother, Niyas, who went to Rehana’s home with a marriage proposal for Navas. Her father, a stage actor, was reluctant because she had an elder sister who was unmarried.

Navas waited for three years to get Rehana’s sister married to get them to tie the knot in October 2002. The couple welcomed three children, Naharin, Rihan, and Ridwan. Once in a throwback interview with the Indian Express, Rehana spoke about Navas’ performance and said:
“I have a great affection for stage artistes, since my own father was one. My father would say a lot of dialogues, had a good voice and looked nice on stage. So I feel very happy when I see Navas perform.”
According to multiple reports, Kalabhavan Navas has been staying in a hotel in Chottanikkara, Kochi, for the shoot of the film, Prakambanam, since July 2025. He wrapped up the shoot and came back to his room. He was supposed to visit his home, but when the actor didn’t check out from his room, his co-workers checked with the hotel, who sent a boy to his room.
However, when the boy reached the room, Navas was lying on the floor unconscious. The hotel staff rushed the actor to a hospital immediately. As per the hotel’s owner:
“The door wasn’t locked, but there was no response. When it was opened, Navas was found lying unconscious on the floor. We informed the production controller and took him to the hospital immediately.”
As per the owner, when they found Navas lying on the floor unconscious, he was alive as his hands were moving. However, when it reached the hospital, the actor was declared dead when brought to a nearby hospital. Kalabhavan Navas’ untimely death at 51 came as a big shock to the Malayalam film industry.
Navas’s body was kept at the SD Tata hospital in Chottanikkara and was later taken to Kalamassery's Government Medical College Hospital. A preliminary medical assessment suggests cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
After his acting debut, Kalabhavan Navas proved his versatility as an actor in films like Hitler Brothers, Junior Mandrake, Mattupetti Machan, Amma Ammaayiyamma, Chandamama, and Thillana Thillana. Navas’ daughter also followed in her father's footsteps, debuting in 2021 with the movie Confessions of a Cuckoo.
Kalabhavan Navas was one of the most loved comedians of the Malayalam film industry. His absence will always be felt in the industry.
