Who Was Director MM Baig? Found Dead At Home, Helped Hrithik With His Debut, Father Of A Child Actor

Bollywood has recently lost a veteran filmmaker, MM Baig. The popular director passed away earlier this week, as reported by various outlets on February 19, 2026. The news was first revealed by MM Baig’s publicist, Hanif Zaveri, while speaking to PTI. Although multiple reports claimed that MM Baig died from a heart attack, his family members have not confirmed anything from their side, and the post-mortem details are currently awaited.

MM Baig was the father of former child actress, Baby Guddu. Born in 1980 as Shahinda Baig, she was a part of films such as Pyar Kiya Hai Pyar Karenge, Kudrat Ka Kanoon, Aakhir Kyon?, and more. Baby Guddu’s last film was Inspector Dhanush, released in 1991. According to details in the trivia section of IMDb, Baby Guddu is currently working as an air hostess at a Dubai airline. Although detailed information about MM Baig’s early life is not available, he worked as an assistant director at the beginning of his career. He had an opportunity of learning a lot under talented filmmakers like Rakesh Roshan. He even worked with other directors, such as J. Om Prakash and Vimal Kumar. During this period, MM Baig contributed to many films, including Aadmi Khilona Hai, Kala Bazaar, Kishen Kanhaiya, Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, and more.

Hrithik Roshan started his acting career with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, released in 2000. Notably, MM Baig was the one who helped the actor with dialogue delivery, voice modulation, and more. The details of the same were revealed by Hanif Zaveri in his statement after Baig’s sudden demise. Hanif said that the well-known filmmaker shared a close bond with Rakesh Roshan, adding that Baig was an expert in diction, along with other skills.

MM Baig directed only two films in his career

After serving as an assistant director to some popular filmmakers, MM Baig made his directorial debut with Masoom Gawah in 1990. The movie featured his daughter, Baby Guddu, alongside other popular faces like Naseeruddin Shah and Anita Raaj. However, the film was never released, reportedly due to production problems. MM Baig’s second film as a director was Chhoti Bahoo, a remake of the 1988 Bengali movie, Choto Bou. Released in 1994, Chhoti Bahoo featured Deepak Tijori as one of the leads along with Shilpa Shirodkar, Kader Khan, Tiku Talsania, Bindu, Reema Lagoo, Anant Mahadevan, Kunickaa Sadanand, Sushmita Mukherjee, and many others.

MM Baig was discovered dead inside his residence in Mumbai

MM Baig was reportedly not seen for many days, and the neighbors eventually contacted the local authorities. According to India Today, MM Baig was in his 70s and was living alone. While speaking to PTI, Hanif Zaveri said that Baig was unwell for some time, and the neighbors were already getting a foul smell from his residence. After the police arrived and went inside, they discovered MM Baig’s dead body, which was taken to the Cooper Hospital during the midnight hours. While Hanif said that Baig’s daughter has been informed about her father’s death, Shahinda Baig has not shared any response so far.
