Lily-Rose Depp's mother, Vanessa Paradis, is one of France's most celebrated artists. She is a famous singer, model, and actress. Vanessa rose to global fame at the age of 14 with her 1987 hit single, Joe le Taxi, which became a chart-topper in Europe that year. She later built a successful acting career, winning France's prestigious César Award for Most Promising Actress and several Victoires de la Musique awards for her music. 

Apart from her film and music careers, Vanessa also became a major fashion icon in the 1980s and 1990s. She has been a long-time face for Chanel since 1991, beginning with the brand's iconic, Coco perfume campaign. Needless to say, her daughter followed in her footsteps. Presently, she is a highly respected icon in France and tied the knot with French director, Samuel Benchetrit, in 2018, and still attends major fashion events alongside her daughter.

Lily-Rose often credited her mother in past interviews for teaching her self-confidence and the importance of maintaining a healthy attitude towards her body and career.

Why did Vanessa Paradis separate from Johnny Depp?

Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp were together for 14 years. They dated from 1998 to 2012, during which time they welcomed two children: Lily-Rose in 1999 and Jack in 2002. Although the former couple never tied the knot, it was one of the most stable periods in Johnny's life. The couple spent much of their time living in the South of France, away from Hollywood, and Johnny once described the time as a "bliss". He enjoyed being just a dad to his kids and raising them away from the spotlight. 

But the duo officially announced their separation in June 2012, leaving their fans in shock. They called it a mutual decision, and neither of them shared the details behind their decision during their time. But later in their interview, they hinted at the challenges that led to their breakup. Vanessa once said that even if people remain in love, sometimes a relationship no longer works. On the other hand, Johnny mentioned that the final two years of their bond were a "bit bump" and "unpleasant at times". 

Meanwhile, some sources told popular news outlets that Johnny's demanding career, especially with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, required him to constantly travel and live apart from his family for extended periods, affecting their bond. Moreover, their move to Los Angeles from France also changed their private lifestyle. At the same time, Johnny admitted during his 2022 defamation trial that he developed feelings for actress, Amber Heard while filming The Rum Diary in 2011, when he was still with Vanessa.

Although it was not the only reason for their split, the overlap allegedly contributed to their breakup. But despite the separation, they continue to share a mutual bond, and Vanessa even defended Johnny during his legal battles, calling him a "kind, attentive, generous and non-violent person."
