According to Nashville Scene, the duo met in the late 1990s when they were undergoing treatment in a drug and alcohol centre. According to Melita, they had an instant emotional connection. She openly spoke about their bond and called her ex-husband 'warm' and 'supportive' in a 2012 interview. Although their marriage lasted over a decade, Todd revealed in 2015 that he had been divorced a year ago.. 

Melita Osheowitz is a New York-based painter whose work reflects the themes of loss and rebirth. She has often credited her ex-husband, Todd, for encouraging her to pursue her creative identity. Consequently, she has continued her artistic journey even after their separation. Todd Snider's final weeks witnessed a sharp decline and emotional turbulence in his life. According to CBS affiliate, KUTV, the singer was a**aulted hours before his performance outside a hotel in South Salt Lake on November 2, 2025. Subsequently, he went to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment of his injuries. But the singer was again arrested for verbally threatening staff members after a conflict. 

According to Todd's team, he had returned to Tennessee after some time, where he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. Although he was transferred for further treatment, his condition began to decline, and he passed away. His family mentioned that Todd was quietly suffering a lot and requested everyone to pray for him.
