Booklovers and literary addicts have received a setback after the popular author, Sophie Kinsella, passed away. She was known for her iconic Shopaholic series, whose books dominated the feel-good fiction for millions of readers. Sophie, who has passed away, has left behind a legacy of a a warm, witty, and memorable heroine, 'Becky Bloomwood'. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news on Instagram, who revealed she passed away surrounded by her "family, music and warmth". In turn, it has sparked curiosity about her personal life, and here's everything you need to know about it.
Sophie Kinsella's literary work was widely known. But only a few people knew the people behind her success, including her husband, Henry Wickham. Sophie met him while studying at Oxford, and they got married in 1991. The couple went on to build a family of seven with love, respect and creativity. Henry is a former schoolmaster who later became the headmaster of Lockers Park School and eventually succeeded to the headship of the school. However, he eventually transitioned to managing Sophie's business affairs before she became successful with her literature.

Sophie Kinsella and Henry Wickham shared five children, including four sons: Freddy, Hugo, Oscar, and Rex. They have one daughter named Sybella. The author of the Shopaholic series often reflected in her interviews how her family and their home were the biggest source of grounding in her life. Sophie once spoke to Lorraine in 2024 and credited her husband for always being by her side, especially throughout her cancer battle. Recalling the same, she said:
"Honestly, I couldn't have survived without him… he had to tell me more than once, 'You've got cancer, and it's incurable.' I don't know how he did it."

Sophie Kinsella passed away at 55 due to brain cancer. She had revealed in April 2024 that she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, at the end of 2022. The author shared the news only after ensuring that her children got adequate time to process the information privately. In her heartfelt Instagram post, Sophie expressed gratitude for the support of her loved ones. Even in the most critical situations, she highlighted how writing and connecting with her readers helped her through the darkest moments of her life.

Sophie Kinsella was a popular best-selling author who began her writing journey at a young age. She published her first novel, The Tennis Party, at the age of 24, while working as a financial journalist. She used to write under her real name, Madeleine Wickham and released seven novels before reinventing herself as "Sophie Kinsella." She immediately rose to fame in 2000 with The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic, where her "funny and feisty" character, 'Becky Bloomwood', became an icon. In the next 25 years, she wrote eight more Shopaholic novels and 18 other books. As a result, Sophie Kinsella had sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
