Sidney Crosby is one of the most well-known Canadian professional ice hockey players. Interestingly, his father, Tory, was also into the sport and served as a goaltender for the Verdun Junior Canadiens in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. However, in the crucial match against Czechia, Sidney unfortunately sustained a lower-body injury. Ultimately, Sidney Crosby had to retire early from the game while Canada trailed 2-1. While details of his injury remain limited, one person whom he can count on to receive support from in this difficult time is his girlfriend, Kathy Leutner. If reports are believed to be true, Sidney Crosby's girlfriend, Kathy Leutner, is a model. Apparently, in 2003, when she was just a high school senior, she was discovered while shopping at Abercrombie & Fitch in Virginia. At the time, Kathy was also accompanied by her mom. Kathy's first modelling gig came just a month later with the brand, giving her the opportunity to appear on the cover of magazines like Fitness and Brides. Almost a decade later, in February 2011, Kathy told Southern Maryland News that she had never thought she would become a model.

She said that at that point, her main focus in life was sports. For the unversed, during high school, Kathy played lacrosse and even earned a partial scholarship to attend James Madison University. Regardless of her love for sports, Kathy eventually chose modelling and said it had been “a dream come true.” In the same year, that is in 2011, Kathy became one of the eight models selected for Sports Illustrated's Model Search contest.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated, Sidney and Kathy were linked together for the first time after they were introduced by a mutual friend. After they started dating, the couple kept things low-key. Even till now, Kathy has only been seen a handful of times attending her boyfriend's games. In a rare occasion, Kathy could be seen cheering on Sidney from the sidelines during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Here, Sidney went on to win the second gold medal for Canada in ice hockey after the first one was won back during the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.

More recently, the model was spotted alongside the wives and girlfriends of other Team Canada players, celebrating Canada's win during the 4 Nations Face-Off. The same was revealed when Connor McDavid's wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid, posted their picture together on Instagram, where all the women were matching in red and white outfits.

If you have been following Sidney Crosby's journey closely, you might be aware that in February 2021, he became the first player in Penguins' history to have played in a thousand NHL games. At the time, the Penguins celebrated his milestone with a ceremony before the puck drop. What made the ceremony even more special for Sidney Crosby, the team captain, was a video dedicated to him that featured a sweet message from his girlfriend, Kathy Leutner.

Another sweet moment from the game was when Kathy appeared at the Zamboni gate. Sidney did not waste any time and quickly skated towards her to hand her flowers. His girlfriend's presence and support there did not go to waste as Sidney, along with the rest of his team, went on to win the game that day. Recalling the time, Sidney said: 

"It's a special day regardless of the outcome, but it makes it so much better than when you win. Just everything from the guys and the ceremony in the room, on the ice - just completely spoiled today. So it was a pretty awesome experience and a day that I'll always remember, and just even sweeter that we were able to win."

While Sidney Crosby's professional life always hogges the spotlight because he is a major name in the NHL, he likes to keep his personal life away from media attention. During an interview with The Hockey News, Sidney revealed that he deliberately remains quiet about his personal life, especially his relationship with his girlfriend, Kathy Leutner. Even remaining off social media, he said that he takes “a lot of pride in being professional and taking what I do seriously.” He added:  

"Everyone does things differently. That’s just something I’ve felt comfortable with. Being a hockey player, you automatically think, ‘There are certain things that are going to be more known about you,’ but it’s nice to have that [privacy], for sure.”
