Who Is Savannah Guthrie's Ex, Mark Orchard? Why Is The Internet Suspecting Him In Nancy's Abduction?

Ten days into Nancy Guthrie's abduction, the investigators have recovered some solid evidence for the case. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the FBI released new images and a 44-second doorbell camera footage of the potential kidnapper from the front door of Nancy Guthrie's Catalina home in Tucson, Arizona. Nancy's daughter, Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie, also shared the photos on social media, asking anyone and everyone for clues about who this masked individual might be.

In a shocking turn of events, suspicion has now fallen on Savannah's first husband, a journalist, Mark Orchard. Here's why many users are convinced that Mark Orchard may be Nancy Guthrie's abductor and where he is now.

Savannah Guthrie shares pictures of a masked subject from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera

Earlier, on February 5, 2026, the Pima County Sheriff's Department released an approximate timeline of Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping from her home in the dead of the night. On February 1, 2026, the 84-year-old's doorbell camera disconnected around 1:47 AM, but the software still detected a person on the camera, reportedly at 2:12 AM. However, the face of that “person” couldn’t be seen, reportedly due to “no subscription” on the software. And now, the FBI has recovered the inaccessible data, and the chilling images have made the case even more compelling.

Shortly after the FBI released the black-and-white close-ups of the suspect, Savannah Guthrie shared four images on her Instagram. In the doorbell camera pictures, a man is seen in gloves, his face covered by a ski mask, holding a flashlight to his mouth. The subject appears to be tampering with the camera and covering it with weeds plucked from Nancy's porch. Sharing the photos, Savannah noted that she believes her mom is still alive.

FBI director Kash Patel shared surveillance footage from Nancy's doorbell camera, a clip that Savannah later shared on Instagram. In the clip, the masked man appears to be armed and seems to have a moustache. Patel confirmed that this footage of the alleged kidnapper was recovered from residual data located in backend systems, as Nancy's doorbell camera didn't have a subscription to save the data. It's important to note, however, that the authorities have not named any suspect, nor confirmed the masked man's identity.

Why is the internet pointing at Mark Orchard?

Shortly after Kash Patel's post, users on X (formerly Twitter) started pointing out how similar the alleged abductor's face resembled that of Savannah Guthrie's ex-husband, Mark Orchard. While unconfirmed, online speculation has intensified, with some users also pointing out that the person could be Tommaso Cioni, the husband of Nancy Guthrie's older daughter, Annie Guthrie. However, the close-ups of the eyes and mouth have left many convinced it's Orchard.

“That is without question Savannah’s ex-husband Mark Orchard,” wrote one user, while another added, "OMG....it does look like him. The light eyes and the shape of his lips. Wow." A third user pointed out that this may also explain why the alleged ransom notes were so well written, given that Mark Orchard is a journalist. The user wrote, "He’s a journalist, right?  Heard the ransom notes are incredibly well written." However, many users noted that the guy on the camera appeared to have droopy eyelids, which allegedly don't resemble Orchard's eyes at all.

Who is Mark Orchard? Savannah Guthrie once spoke about her "horrible" divorce from him

Mark Orchard was not only the first husband of Savannah Guthrie, but was also an important member of the latter's family. He allegedly had close ties with Nancy Guthrie, and the two reportedly shared a loving bond throughout the marriage. If his face looks familiar, Orchard is a British-American journalist who has worked with international outlets such as the BBC and has led the Washington newsroom.

Earlier in his career, Mark Orchard worked as a White House producer for the BBC, covering President George W. Bush's first term. He later helped launch Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera America. He was also the executive producer for America Tonight. Unlike Guthrie, Orchard has largely stayed out of the public eye since their 2009 divorce. As far as is known, Mark now lives in the United States and has worked as a senior broadcast producer on the syndicated investigative show Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson since 2016.

Savannah Guthrie was married to journalist Mark Orchard from 2005 to 2009. Guthrie has always kept the details of their divorce private, never publicly sharing who ended the marriage. Years later, she briefly addressed the topic, recalling the heartbreak of the divorce. Speaking on the Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky podcast, Guthrie said her divorce is the one part of her life she has never wanted to discuss.

On the same podcast, Guthrie added that while writing her book, she realised some subjects were simply off-limits for her, adding that her publisher respected those boundaries and never pressured her to reveal details about her first marriage. She said:

"It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart, and it took me years to recover. And I'm not blaming anyone, but I don't really want to get into it."

What is the Guthrie family saying about the alleged kidnapper's identity?

As of now, all these are mere speculations, and none of the claims have been substantiated by the authorities. Law enforcement has yet to identify the person captured on camera, and the Pima County Sheriff's Department has noted there are no official suspects. According to NBC News, the Guthrie family said they did not recognise the person shown in the alleged abductor’s photos or surveillance images.

The FBI has since released the images to the public, hoping someone may identify the individual, or recognise the clothing or items seen, and provide tips that could help advance the investigation. A USD 50,000 reward is offered to whoever can provide valuable clues in the manhunt for Nancy Guthrie.
