According to Stars Unfolded, Sangeetha hails from a Sri Lankan Tamil family and was raised by her parents who shifted to london when she was a kid.

In 1996, Vijay, who was then in the initial phase of his career, delivered a successful film, Poove Unakkaga. His performance impressed Sangeetha and she immediately became his die-hard fan. After some time, Sangeetha traveled to Chennai to meet the actor shooting his next film in the city. Sangeetha visited him on the set of his film and praised him. Chandrasekhar and Shobha, who took a liking to her. They soon met for a second time, and the actor's parents realised he had feelings for her and found her ideal as their daughter-in-law. Consequently, Vijay's father asked them about marriage, and they agreed. Soon, they went to seek consent from her parents, leading to their wedding on August 25, 1999, in a grand ceremony. She is Christian but got married with Hindu traditions.

Sangeetha Sornalingam's life post marriage 

Sangeetha and Vijay's family grew after marriage, and the couple became parents to a son, Jason Sanjay, in 2000. They also welcomed a daughter, Divya Saasha, in 2005. Sangeetha has been a hands-on mother and both her kids made a brief appearance in their father's films, like Jason, who was seen in Vettaikaaran, while Divya appeared in Theri. In 2019, the Sangeetha was awarded the 'Unheralded Commander' award by Galatta Media.

Sangeetha and Vijay have been married for over two decades, and she has been a pillar of strength in her husband's life. However, in 2023, rumors about their divorce made rounds on the internet as she was absent from filmmaker, Atlee's wife's baby shower and the trailer launch of Vijay's film, Varisu. However, a source close to Pinkvilla soon dismissed the news, and later, Sangeetha attended Aishwarya Shankar's wedding reception on Vijay's behalf, reaffirming that all was well between them.
