Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, commonly referred to as S. Jaishankar is India's Minister of External Affairs, whose name often appears in the news headlines every now and then. There have been numerous occasions when the thirtieth EAM (External Affairs Minister) shut down the critics and opposition with his hard-hitting responses. Some of his most famous statement that broke the internet came at the the GLOBESEC 2022 Bratislava Forum when he took a jibe at Europe. S. Jaishankar said, "Europe has to grow out of the mindset that Europe's problems are the world's problems, but the world's problems aren't Europe's problems."
For the uninitiated, S. Jaishankar is only the second diplomat after Natwar Singh, who was appointed as India's Minister of External Affairs. It was back in 1977 when S. Jaishankar started his career as a diplomat when he joined the Indian Foreign Services (IFS). In a career spanning nearly four decades, he has served as the High Commissioner to Singapore and Ambassador to the Czech Republic, China, and the US. Courtesy of his tremendous work as an Indian diplomat, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2019.
S. Jaishnakar is one of the most notable personalities in the Indian political space, but not everyone is aware of his background. For the uninitiated, S. Jaishankar was born in Delhi on January 9, 1955. He is the son of renowned civil servant, Krishnaswamy Subrahmanyam. Jaishankar completed his schooling from Delhi's Air Force School and Bangalore's Military School. He attained a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Delhi's St. Stephen's College. Not only this, Jaishankar has an MBA degree in political science. He also has an M.Phil. and PhD from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Regarding S. Jaishankar's personal life, he is married to a gorgeous woman named Kyoko Somekawa, who is from Japan. Time and again, we have seen Kyoko attending political parties and events with her husband, S. Jaishankar. Despite being one of India's most prominent political personalities, S. Jaishankar hardly talks about his wife, Kyoko, in public. The diplomat prefers to live a low-key life away from the attention of paparazzi and media attention.

Not much is known about S. Jaishankar and Kyoko Somekawa's love story other than the fact that the Indian embassy played Cupid in it. According to several reports, S. Jaishankar was appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian embassy in Japan's capital, Tokyo, from 1996 to 2000.
During his four years in Japan, S. Jaishankar met and fell in love with his current wife, Kyoko Somekawa. From meeting at the Indian embassy in Tokyo to becoming friends and choosing each other as life partners, Jaishankar and Kyoko got married in a low-key wedding ceremony.
The stunning couple, S. Jaishankar and Kyoko Somekawa are blessed with three children, Medha Jaishankar, Dhruva Jaishankar, and Arjun Jaishankar. While the couple's daughter, Medha is based in the US, not much is known about her siblings, Dhruva and Arjun. Talking about Medha's profession, she belongs to the film industry and has also worked as a reporter and camera operator for a BBC show, Talking Movies.
Another interesting anecdote from S. Jaishankar's marriage story is that his current wife, Kyoko Somekawa, is his second wife. Yes! You read it right! The diplomat was previously married to a woman named Shobha Jaishankar. The couple met when they were studying at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). After becoming friends and dating each other for some time, they got married.
Unfortunately, after some years of their marriage, Shobha Jaishankar was diagnosed with cancer. Although she fought against cancer for some time, she couldn't beat it and eventually passed away. Some years after the demise of his first wife, Shobha, S. Jaishankar was posted to Japan's Tokyo at the Indian embassy, where he crossed paths with Kyoko Somekawa, and the rest is history.
