Who is Jay Cohen?

Jay Cohen is a partner and head of film finance and distribution at Gresh Agency. It's one of the oldest talent management agencies in Hollywood. As per the Hollywood Reporter, Michelle Trachtenberg signed a contract with them related to her work in 2014. He has also worked alongside some of the biggest names in the entertainment world, including, Dustin Hoffman, Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn. As per his professional bio, the talent agent earlier used to work on Wall Street as an investment banker. During a chat at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, he said: 

"I started as an investment banker in New York, made my way to L.A., and financed some movies for people by accident, so I learned how to make movies because I invested in a movie, and it turns out the producers didn't understand they weren't supposed to the money home."

Jay Cohen was exposed to the world of film financing in LA, and he gradually learned more about it before starting a production company with Dustin Hoffman. He utilised all his learnings and made several movies. Some. of his popular production credits include Bride Wars, Swimming With Sharks, and Two for the Money. Given his film finance and distribution expertise, he gained much respect and has contact with some of the most acclaimed actors in the showbiz.

Jay Cohen's personal life

Jay Cohen's personal life has not been discussed in the media. But, some of his Instagram posts reveal that he is a proud father of two daughters, Lili and Rachel. Their mother's details are unknown in the media, but Jay often shares pictures with them from vacations. His younger daughter, Lili, tied the knot in November 2023, and the talent agent expressed his delight.

Despite knowing Michelle Trachtenberg for a long time, thanks to the Gresh Agency, Jay was rumoured to be dating the late actress in 2020. The couple kept their relationship low-key and were not spotted together at events. The film producer first made their relationship Instagram official by sharing a picture with the Love Bites actress in July 2021. He captioned a selfie of the two and penned, "Fireworks are every day with this one." Jay Cohen is reportedly 57, and his dating rumour with 39-year-old Michelle created a stir over the internet due to their age gap. However, the couple ignored criticism and cherished their time with each other. Moroever, just a week before her death, she shared a throwback Halloween picture with Jay and mentioned: 

"Happy Valentine's Day to the man who sits still long enough for me to paint his face."

Jay Cohen is a kidney transplant survivor

The early investigation reports of Michelle Trachtenberg revealed that police didn't suspect foul play in the case. Rather, her demise might be linked to some consequence or side-effect of a liver transplant surgery that the EuroTrip actress underwent sometime ago. Coincidentally, Jay himself had a kidney transplant in 1999. Apart from him, his brothers also reportedly got kidney transplants due to a certain condition that isn'tthey don't specify. Sharing an Instagram post in 2024, he penned: 

"Wow, it's that time of year again! Today, July 9 is the 25th anniversary of my kidney transplant that saved my life."

Jay Cohen's first appearance after Michelle Trachtenberg's sudden demise 

Michelle Trachtenberg and Jay Cohen's relationship was private but not hidden. After her demise, a few media people approached his apartment to get a reaction to the incident. A teary-eyed Jay opened the door to a Daily Mail reporter and stated: 

"The family will not be commenting on the tragedy."
