Jermaine Lamarr Cole, popularly known as J. Cole, is an American rapper and record producer. He gained recognition in early 2007 following the release of his mixtape, The Come Up. From Cole World: The Sideline Story, Born Sinner, Work Out, Power Trip, Crooked Smile and many others, every album of the rapper has peaked atop the US Billboard.
Women have always been a source of inspiration for J. Cole. Even in his albums and mixtapes, they appear as single mothers, lost lovers and supportive girlfriends. Let us read on to know about the woman behind his success, his wife, Melissa Heholt, who has been with him since the beginning of his career.

Melissa Heholt was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, in a middle-class American family. She attended Molloy College, a private educational institution on Long Island, NY. Then she continued her education at St. Jones University, where she met Cole for the first time. She enrolled in college as a business major but eventually graduated with a degree in health administration. She later earned her master's degree in elementary education and decided to become a teacher.

Ater working a few months as a teacher, she founded her own company, Statice Events. Her company provided event planning services for customers, covering all types of events, from weddings to birthday soirées. However, the business no longer exists. Speaking about her venture in an interview, Heholt said:
“The main focus of Statice Events is to provide exceptional client service while creating memorable events with a unique flair. When I produce a successful event that my clients and their guests continuously reminisce about I know I have accomplished my goal for that event."

In addition to launching her own event-planning company, Heholt works at J. Cole’s nonprofit organisation, Dreamville Foundation, which serves youth. The organisation focuses on providing programs and resources particularly for the youth of the rapper's hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

After dating each other for 10 years, Cole and Heholt got engaged and tied the knot in 2015, in a secret ceremony. Despite being married to his teenage love, J Cole never revealed the news to the world until 2016. In a conversation with director Ryan Coogler, he accidentally asked the rapper how getting married had changed him. Coogler later apologised for the slip-up, but the rapper responded to the question and said:
“It's all good … they know now!"

Cole and Heholt are extremely private about their personal life. The couple is parents to two boys, and the news about the same was revealed by the rapper in a personal essay published in The Players' Tribune. The rapper also recalled learning in 2016 that he would become a father for the first time and that he ‘wasn’t surprised’. Speaking about parenthood, he said:
“I've been blessed with two sons, learned the delicate art of balance between parenthood and career. I had been taking steps to change my life for the past couple years, and I felt ready.”
J. Cole’s songs often describe women, and his wife, Melissa Heholt, has been an influential figure in his songs. The same was seen when he announced her second pregnancy with his album, Revenge of the Dreamers III. In the song, Sacrifices, he raps about her and says:
“I had nowhere to go, she gave me a place to stay / She gave me her heart to hold / I still got that s--- to this day / She gave me the gift of my son / And plus we got one on the way / She gave me a family to love, for that, I can never repay."
