Ishant Sharma’s wife, Pratima Singh, is a basketball player for the Indian women’s national basketball team. Born in Varanasi, Pratima started playing basketball at the age of 13 and later learnt the sport at Udai Pratap College. In 2006, Pratima was selected to the Junior Indian team, and she also captained the Junior Indian Girls team in 2008.

An alumnus of Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, Pratima led the DU team in All India Inter-university and won a gold medal. She represented her country in the first 3x3 FIBA Asia Championship and secured a gold medal.

Pratima hails from a family of basketball players. All her four sisters are popular basketball players, and her siblings are best known as the ‘Singh Sisters’. Her sisters, Priyanka Singh and Divya Singh, have represented the Indian National Women’s Basketball team and are currently working as coaches.

Pratima’s other sister, Prashanti Singh, is the first basketball player in India conferred with the Padma Shri in 2019. She was also honoured with the Arjuna Award. She is the first female basketball player in India to represent the National team in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. On the other hand, Akanksha Singh was a former captain of the Indian Women’s Basketball team. 

How did Ishant Sharma meet Pratima Singh?

It was in 2011 when Ishant was invited as the chief guest for Delhi's IGMA Basketball Association League. The event was arranged by one of his friends, who is Pratima’s sister. Since Pratima had an injury, she could not play and was handling the part of the scorer. Unaware of the fact that she is a Basketball champ, the cricketer joked that scorers are pretty here. This is when his friend corrected him and introduced him to Pratima.

After his introduction to Pratima, Ishant sent a friend request to her on Facebook, which she accepted after two years. Eventually, they exchanged phone numbers and soon began dating. In December 2016, the duo got married in a grand ceremony, which was attended by many sports personalities. After seven years of marital bliss, Ishant and Pratima welcomed their baby girl in 2023.
