Every Megadeth fan is upset after David Scott Mustaine, the co-founder, frontman, primary songwriter, and sole consistent member of the thrash metal band Megadeth, announced that they would be going on their final tour. He shared a music video message through his alter ego, "Vic Rattlehead," and a heartfelt note to give updates to Megadeth's fan club.
Dave urged fans not to mourn but to celebrate. The songwriter explained how ending on his terms, while still at the top, is a luxury few musicians enjoy. As fans are upset over the end of an era defined by Megadeth, here is everything you must know about him.
David Scott Mustaine, a.k.a Dave, was born on September 13, 1961, in La Mesa, California, but his early life was far from easy. He was raised in a complex household, and being the youngest of four siblings, he often described his childhood as unstable. After his father left them, music became an escape for him. He used to cut his teeth in small bands before joining Metallica as lead guitarist. Bur Amid his brief tenure, Dave got embroiled in substance abuse issues, ending his tenure there.
After parting with Metallica, Dave planned to form his band and formed Megadeth in 1983. Together with other members, they made a faster, heavier, and more technically intricate kind of music. The band has released sixteen studio albums, sold over 50 million records, and earned a Grammy Award in 2017 for Dystopia. Some of their popular hits include Holy Wars… The Punishment Due to Symphony of Destruction, and more.
Behind the stage, Dave's personal life tells a loyal story. He has been married to Pamela Anne Casselberry since 1991, and their 34-year marriage has been through the storm of fame and addiction. They have two children, Justis, a guitarist and actor who recently tied the knot. However, Dave has always preferred to keep his personal life away from the media limelight.

Dave Mustaline's health issues have been equally defining. After several years of headbanging left him with spinal stenosis, in 2019, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. However, he refused to give updates and underwent treatment and announced in January 2020 that he was cancer-free. These struggles, coupled with his history of rehab and sobriety efforts, have only deepened his reputation as a survivor. Talking about Megadeth's end and final album, Dave said:
"We can't wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour. If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it's now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it's now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it's our last studio album. We've made a lot of friends over the years, and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don't be mad, don't be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. "
