Mitt Romney's sister-in-law, Carrie Elizabeth, was found dead on October 10, 2025. An investigation is underway regarding the mysterious death of the 64-year-old. Her body was discovered in a street near a parking garage of the Valencia Town Centre shopping mall. The police officials shared with PEOPLE that they found no trace of foul play as of yet; however, a medical examination of Carrie's body is underway. Mitt Romney's representative recently shared that his family is heartbroken at Carrie's loss. Here's what we know about his late sister-in-law and her husband.
G. Scott Romney is the eldest son of former Michigan governor, George W Romney and elder brother of the former US senator and presidential nominee, Mitt Romney. Scott is a Republican politician, working with the Honigman law firm. He ran for the Michigan Attorney General's office in 1998 but did not win the nomination. Following Mitt Romney's presidential election loss to Barack Obama, a speculation emerged in 2013 that G. Scott Romney might run for the US Senate in Michigan. However, he ultimately decided against pursuing the opportunity.
G. Scott Romney was married to Carrie Elizabeth Romney before her untimely demise at 64. Carrie was his third wife, with whom he tied the knot in 2016, following his divorce from Sheri Jelalian. Scott and Sheri were together for five years, from 2011 to 2016. Before Sheri, Scott was married to Ronna Romney from 1967 to 1992. G. Scott Romney is Michigan-based, while his late wife, Carrie Elizabeth, was reportedly a resident of Valencia, California. However, there is no information available regarding whether Carrie and Scott lived together or separately.
Scott is the father of seven children, including the former Republican National Committee chair, Ronna Romney McDaniel, 52. He shares Ronna and the other kids, Kevin, George, Mark, Christina, Madison, and Griffin Romney, with his previous wives, Ronna and Sheri. Scott and Carrie Elizabeth Romney did not have any children together.

Carrie Elizabeth's body was discovered in a street at the parking lot of Santa Clarita's Valencia Town Centre shopping mall, near a Hyatt Regency hotel, as reported by NBC Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is conducting an investigation into her death, and their initial analysis revealed that Carrie Elizabeth either fell or jumped to her death. They ruled out any possibilities of foul play so far. As per the Sheriff's office's statement to PEOPLE, they arrived in the 24500 block of Town Centre Drive in a Valencia parking garage on October 10, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m. PT and discovered Carrie's body.
Although falling from the Town Centre parking structure is not confirmed to be the cause of Carrie Elizabeth's death, her body is getting prepared to be released, according to records from the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The police will close the case only after pending toxicology tests and further investigation are done by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.
Carrie Elizabeth's family, including her husband, G. Scott Romney, brother-in-law, Mitt Romney, and others, is devastated at the news of her passing. Mitt Romney's representative shared with the US media that he was grief-stricken and sought privacy during their period of mourning. Carrie was a warm and loving part of Mitt's family, and her death has left the family 'heartbroken'. It was a tough time for the Romney family. The representative quoted Mitt Romney as saying:
"Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."
