Amelia Vega’s career started as a model. Notably, she gained recognition as the winner of the Miss Universe pageant in 2003. Amelia was only 18 years old at the time. Amelia competed against four other models, which included Miss Japan - Miyako Miyazaki, Miss Serbia and Montenegro - Sanja Papic, Miss Venezuela - Mariangel Ruiz Torrealba, and Miss South Africa - Cindy Neil. Amelia said after winning the pageant that she aims to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS and support those who are dealing with the health issue.

Two years after winning Miss Universe, Amelia Vega made her acting debut in Andy Garcia’s film, The Lost City. Although the film did not do as well as expected, it brought Amelia into the spotlight. Amelia was then cast in two more projects, Homie Spumoni and Captain Avispa. Amelia is also the author of a book, Un dia en la vida de Pichin, which was published in 2019. Amelia Vega and Al Horford did not develop a romantic connection immediately when they first met at the Latin Pride Awards in 2007. The duo became close friends at the time. They reunited a few years later and began dating. Al once admitted in an interview that he realized after dating Amelia that she was the right person for him. Four years after they started dating, Al and Amelia exchanged vows in 2011 on Christmas Eve.

As mentioned, Amelia Vega wrote a book in 2019, and she claimed on Instagram at that time that the book was inspired by two of her children. Notably, Amelia and Al have six children together. The duo’s youngest child, Vail, was born in 2025. The couple welcomed their two eldest children, Ean and Alia, in 2015 and 2016. They had two more kids, Ava and Nova, in 2018 and 2021, followed by Mila in 2022.
