Kirk Cousins is a well-known American football player. However, if there's one thing he is more devoted to than being an NFL quarterback, it is being a father. Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk and his wife, Julie Hampton Cousins, have two sons: Cooper and Turner, and there is no denying that he is a proper all-hands-on-deck dad.

Kirk Cousins on being a father to two boys

Kirk Cousins has often been candid about being a dad to two boys. While promoting his Netflix docuseries, Quarterback, the star player further opened up about how important it was for him to continue playing football until his sons were old enough to enjoy and remember his career. During a chat with PEOPLE, he stated:

"I made it a goal to play long enough before I retire that my boys could really remember it and would have enjoyed being a part of it. It means a great deal to me that my boys could come to training, camp, and practices, watch us play, and play catch with us afterward, and come into the locker room after a special win. And they stay up late to watch the game because they want to follow it."

Julie Hampton Cousins on their sons becoming interested in football

During a 2023 session with PEOPLE, Julie reflected on how her boys were becoming interested in learning about what their four-time Pro Bowl selection dad does. She revealed that they are even interested in knowing who his teammates are. She was quoted as saying:

"They do want to watch the game now. They care about the score. They want to learn who Kirk's teammates are, and that makes it even more fun for Kirk and me to teach them all about it. We look forward to more years together, where they can continue to share that passion with us. It makes it so much more fun where we can include them."

Being a parent can be one of the biggest joys for couples; having a mini version of your love running around the house is a delight, and Kirk and Julie first experienced this eternal joy in 2017. In March 2017, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, and Cooper was born on September 29, 2017. According to ESPN, Cooper weighed 9 lbs, 6 oz at birth; he arrived 11 days late. 

Cooper has a knack for interviewing his dad and his teammates

While what the little one will decide for his future remains a mystery, he may have a future in the NFL as a sports journalist. In March 2023, the NFL shared a video of him interviewing players, including his dad, Detroit Lions quarterback, Jared Goff, and retired New York Giants quarterback, Eli Manning at the Pro Bowl. The prior month, Kirk shared a clip on his IG of Cooper interviewing Kirk's then-teammate, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, Justin Jefferson, at the same event. When Cooper asked Jefferson who his best friend was, the athlete looked behind him and said:

"Well, see the man right behind you? Your daddy? That's my best friend."

Kirk is also well known for his philanthropy and has brought Cooper along to several charity events. In 2023, Kirk shared photos on Instagram of himself and Cooper volunteering at the Salvation Army in Saint Paul, Minn., serving pie to Vikings fans on Thanksgiving. Kirk even brought Cooper to the locker room after the Vikings completed the biggest comeback in NFL history, overcoming a 33-0 halftime deficit against the Indianapolis Colts. Cooper expressed his pride in his father after sitting in on the postgame press conference and said, "You worked as best as you can, Dad."

On March 10, 2019, Kirk and Julie welcomed their second son, Turner. The QB announced the little one's arrival with a photo of himself holding the baby, along with a video of Cooper coming to see his younger brother while Julie held him. 

Turner Cousins has an extremely kind heart

After winning the NFC North division in 2022, the Vikings were upset by the New York Giants during the Wild Card round of that season's NFL playoffs. Turner showed humility at a young age, staying home to watch the game with Kirk's mother so Cooper could attend in his place. When his dad, Kirk, praised him, the little one responded, "Every time he wants to go, I let him go when Mom wants him to go. Tomorrow, I'll let him go again." Turner has since loved attending Kirk's football activities around the Vikings facility with his big brother.

Krik Cousins bonded with Cooper and Turner while playing legos

When Kirk was recovering from an Achilles tendon tear in 2024, he told PEOPLE about how he bonded with Turner and Cooper by playing with Legos. He added that his wife and kids enjoyed having him around more. The doting dad also appeared on CJ Ham's Dad Mode with Turner and Cooper and shared some of their interests. He revealed that Cooper built a 598-piece Lego replica of the floating house in 2009's Up, and Turner built a Lego 'Batman' jet.
