The mysterious Celeste Rivas case, which began on September 8, 2025, has continued to leave the investigators and public searching for answers. It has been several weeks since the 14-year-old's body was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to rising pop singer, David Anthony Burke a.k.a D4vd. Still, the investigation is incomplete. Authorities are waiting for the medical examiner's final report, which will play a crucial role in determining what really happened to the young girl from Lake Elsinore. Amid this, here's how long the whole investigation for the case takes.
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, the cause and the manner of death in the case have been 'deferred'. That means initial testing could not determine how Celeste Rivas died. Consequently, the examiner has ordered more tests and studies, such as toxicology and other advanced procedures, to determine the cause of death. Some officials explained that cases like these can take weeks or even months to finalize results. It will ultimately decide whether the case will move forward as a homicide or something else entirely.
According to the legal experts, toxicology results often serve as a turning point in such investigations. Attorney and legal analyst Alison Triessl explained to KTLA that the autopsy and lab tests "can determine an entire investigation." After the medical examiner confirms whether Celeste's death was caused by strangulation, poisoning, overdose, or trauma, it will help to narrow the focus of investigators to recognize the suspects or potential weapons. They can even reveal if the victim was intoxicated or drugged to determine a timeline of her final hours.
Until the medical reports are out, D4vd, the 20-year-old singer known for hits such as Romantic Homicide, has not been named as a suspect in the case. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the singer's team confirmed that he is cooperating with authorities. However, he has not made any public statement in the case. On the other hand, D4vd's tour has been canceled, and several sponsors have quietly cut ties as the case gains widespread attention. According to Complex, authorities have even hinted that Celeste Rivas's death may not be a murder, though nothing has been confirmed.
Amid all the buzz around Celeste Rivas' case, private investigator, Steve Fischer revealed to Los Angeles Magazine that Celeste Rivas was reportedly seen alive in 2025. He claimed to have an image of her from this year, although he declined to share the exact month or details due to the ongoing investigation. Steve hinted that some parts of the case's timeline may be more complex than they initially thought. In his words:
