When Surekha Sikri Revealed Her Husband, Hemant Rage Was A Great Cook And Had Taught Her To Eat Fish

On the morning of July 16, 2021, we had lost a precious gem of the film industry, Surekha Sikri. The three-time national award-winning actress had died due to a cardiac arrest. She has always garnered heaps of praises for her amazing acting skills. Her role as 'dadisa' from Balika Vadhu is still fondly remembered. And indeed, it is a sad day for the lovers of Indian cinema as we will never see the actress performing again on the big screens.

However, not many people know much about Surekha Sikri's personal life. In 1994, the actress had gotten married to Hemant Rege, and they were parents to a son, whom they had name Rahul. Hemant had left for the heavenly abode in 2009.

Recently, we stumbled upon a 2014 interview of Surekha with the Verve magazine. The actress had talked about her husband, Hemant. The couple had first met during the shooting of the 1985 film, Tamas. Interestingly, Surekha had even won a national award for her role in the film. Surekha had revealed that she had never liked watching films, but it was her husband, Hemant, who used to watch every episode of her serials.

Recalling the same, Surekha had shared, "I never watch my serials, but Hemant loved to watch, so we’d see episodes of Balika Vadhu together, and he’d tease me about it. Then, we’d go for plays to Prithvi, attend classical music concerts." Surekha had also shared that her husband, Hemant had taught her to eat fish.

Surekha had further stated that her husband was also an amazing cook. She had said, "He was a great cook and I learnt to eat bombil, surmai, teesrya, thanks to him,” she had said, adding that he was “such a nice, gentle person."

The Indian cinema will always remember Surekha Sikri's contribution!
