When Rekha Strongly Reacted To Aishwarya Rai Being Called Plastic, 'I'll Fight For Her Like Tigress'

Amitabh Bachchan was once allegedly dating Rekha despite being married to Jaya Bachchan. Though the duo has moved on in their lives and reportedly not in touch with each other, the Bachchan bahu is dearly loved by Rekha. Amitabh and Jaya’s daughter-in-law, Aishwarya, is one of the most loved actresses in Bollywood, and even Rekha can't stop adoring her. Time and again, Aishwarya and Rekha have showcased their love and admiration for each other.

Rekha's reaction to Aishwarya Rai being tagged as plastic

Once, in an interview, Rekha strongly reacted to Aishwarya Rai being tagged as plastic and said that she admired her a lot. She also mentioned that Aishwarya is the best and disagreed with the media that labelling the latter as 'plastic. She even mentioned that she would fight for Aishwarya like a tigress if she needed to. Rekha could be quoted as saying:

"Among the models I admire, I find Aishwarya is the best. I disagree with the media that she is 'plastic'. I find her very expressive. I will fight for her like a tigress if need be. My heart goes out to Ash. She's been around for so long and yet not been there."

Rekha also compared Aishwarya Rai's situation with hers and revealed that it seemed impossible that a Tamilan girl talking Urdu would work until the former did Umrao Jaan. She further added that Aishwarya didn't need to go to Hollywood to prove herself as she is our treasure. Rekha said:

"That's how it was with me…until I did Umrao. It seemed improbable that a Tamilan girl talking Urdu would work. Similarly this South Indian girl should realize her potential in Umrao. She doesn't need to go to Hollywood to prove herself. She's our own. Why Bride & Prejudice? Who are these people from outside trying to tap Ash's potential? She's our treasure. It's time we acknowledge her."

When Rekha penned a letter for Aishwarya Rai

Once, Rekha penned a heartwarming letter to Aishwarya Rai and applauded her for facing the struggles in her life to reach where she is now. The beautiful letter was published in Femina in 2018, and it melted many hearts. In the letter, Rekha also lauded Aishwarya as a living example that courage is the most important virtue. Her note could be read as

“My Ash, A woman like you who is in harmony with her spirit is like a flowing river, never stagnant. She goes where she wants to without pretence; and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself. People may forget what you said, they may also forget what you did but they will never forget how you made them feel. You are a living example that courage is the most important of all the virtues because, without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently! Your deep strength and pure energy introduce you even before you speak!”

Rekha and Aishwarya Rai are quite cordial with each other, and their bond needs no introduction. During an event in January 2019, the paparazzi captured a heartwarming moment between Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan's daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The duo was seen exchanging pleasantries at the event, grabbing many eyeballs. They happily posed for the photographs and kissed each other while bidding goodbye.
