It was 49 years ago when the angry young man of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan had broken the hearts of his million female fans and tied the knot with the doe-eyed beauty, Jaya Bachchan. It was in the year 1970, when Mr Bachchan had first met Jaya Bhaduri at the Pune Film Institute. Jaya was already a star, and Amitabh was trying to make a career in Bollywood.
It was on the sets of Ek Nazar, when Cupid had struck the two as Jaya had realised that she had developed feelings for Mr Bachchan. On the other hand, he too couldn’t resist from falling in love with the Bengali beauty. Amitabh and Jaya had tied the knot in chat mangni, pat vyaah on June 3, 1973. They are proud parents to Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan, in-laws to Nikhil Nanda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and doting grandparents to Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda and Aaradhya Bachchan.

When Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan had completed 25 years of marital bliss, they had graced Simi Garewal’s show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, where the iconic couple had opened up about their first impression of each other. Talking about the same, Mr Bachchan had revealed that it was on the sets of Guddi, when he had met her for the first time. Revealing how he fell in love with her beautiful eyes, he had shared:
“When I saw her photograph, I liked her eyes. I saw that traditional-conservative blend that I thought that I would be searching for in my future wife. When I met her I realised that along with that came several other Guddis, the pun is unintended! I said fine, this is it.”
However, Jaya wasn’t too pleased during their first meeting. Revealing why she was frightened by him, Jaya had stated:
“When I first met him, I saw danger. I got frightened because he was the only one who, out of a lot of people that I’ve known, could dictate things to me and I allow him to do that.”

Going further in the interview, Jaya had retorted that even though he never dictated things to her, she would happily oblige to whatever he said as she wanted to please him. In her words:
“It’s not like he would dictate things to me, it’s just that even if he said something to me mildly, I’d do them. I’d want to please him. That’s something that does not come to me easily and naturally, to want to please people.”

When their film, Zanjeer had turned into a blockbuster in 1973, Amitabh and Jaya’s friends had decided to take a trip to London. Amitabh's parents had rejected his idea of a London trip and had said that he could not go out with a girl unless he marries her. He had proposed to Jaya for marriage, and it was an instant yes from her. Within a few days, everything was fixed and the two got married in an intimate ceremony, and on the same day, they had left for London.
The iconic couple Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have worked together in movies like Sholay, Abhimaan, Zanjeer, Chupke Chupke, Mili, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and a few others.
