Famous Punjabi singer and songwriter, Daler Mehndi is married to his ladylove, Taranpreet Kaur, who is popularly known as Nikki Mehndi. Nikki is also an actress and singer, and she enjoys a fanbase of her own. Daler and Nikki are blessed with four children, Gurdeep, Ajit, Prabhjot and Rabaab. Back in 2013, reports were rife that Nikki and Daler's marriage was in trouble as the duo had hit rock bottom. The news of Daler Mehndi’s alleged divorce with his wife, Nikki took the Punjabi music industry by storm back then.

When Nikki Mehndi denied any rift in her marriage with Daler Mehndi

Nikki Mehndi, who was initially a homemaker, released her first music album, Nakhra Punjab Da, when her husband, Daler Mehndi launched his album, Roda Pey Gaya. Since the duo released their respective albums under rival music companies, people began speculating that their marriage was on the rocks. However, in an interview with DNA, Nikki denied any rift in their marriage and said:

“I am married to a family of musicians. My husband, Daler, my brother-in-law, Mika and my father-in-law, Ajmer Singh are all musicians. Five years ago, I expressed a wish to release my own album to Dalerji, he encouraged me to learn music and has supported me throughout.”

The reason behind Nikki Mehndi and Daler Mehndi's alleged divorce rumours

For the unversed, Nikki Mehndi learnt music from her father-in-law, Ajmer Singh. In the same interview, the actress was asked why she didn’t record an album with her husband, Daler, under his label, DRecords, which he has owned since 2001. Responding to the same, Nikki revealed that her husband's company wasn’t interested in promoting her, so she chose another label to release her album. She added:

“My dream was to do something on my own. If Dalerji is not a part of my album, it doesn’t mean that our marriage is not working. Dalerji’s music company wasn’t interested in promoting me. The other company was. Hence we chose to release our albums through different companies. The release date of the album is decided by the music company and not by us, hence our album release dates clashed.”

Further, ending the speculations about the troubles in her and Daler Mehndi's marital bliss, Nikki gave a clarification once and for all. She mentioned that she and her husband have been together for years and that they have been going very strong with time. Lauding her husband for his support in her music career, Nikki said:

“Dalerji and I are married for 20 years now. We are very much together. I have been a simple housewife with no knowledge of music till a few years ago. If he wouldn’t have supported me, how would I have been able to release my album? I have a loving family and Dalerji and I are going very strong.”

Daler Mehndi's arrest in the human trafficking case

For the unversed, Daler Mehndi has three siblings, Mika Singh, Harjeet Mehndi and Shamsher Mehndi. Earlier, Daler and his deceased brother, Shamsher were booked by Patiala police in a human trafficking case almost two decades ago. For the unversed, Daler Mehendi and his late brother, Shamsher were accused of collecting passage money to take people abroad via the troupe route. In their complaint, several people claimed that the sibling duo had taken money but did not keep their promise. Finally, on July 14, 2022, the Patiala court sentenced Daler Mehndi to two-year imprisonment as ample evidence was found against the singer. 

For the unversed, Daler Mehndi met Taranpreet Kaur for the first time in 1994, and he released his first album, Bolo Ta Ra Ra, in 1995.
