On July 4, 2025, a massive fire broke out at the Vishal Mega Mart in Karol Bagh, Delhi. It was in the departmental store where the fire spread. According to police, the rescue team is currently working, while the investigators are probing every angle to determine the reason for the fire breakout. Two of the floors are still filled with thick smoke, which has caused a delay in the investigation. Reportedly, a 25-year-old man died in the fire breakout, while, as per the most recent report, two bodies were retrieved.

If the reports are to be believed, a 25-year-old man was trapped inside a lift, when the fire broke out. However, he couldn't survive till the end. When his body was found, he was found in an unconscious state and was rushed to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. Before he died, he reportedly sent a text to his brother. A screenshot was shared online, wherein the deceased, Kumar Dhirendra Pratap Singh was seen telling his brother that they were all stuck in the lift of Karol Bagh Mega Mart. He asked his brother to save him while stating that he couldn't breathe smoothly, as it was suffocating. His message could be read as:

"Bhaiya hum lift me gas gaye hai Karol Bagh mega mart. Aur saans fullrha hai kuch kro."

The Deputy Commissioner of police, Nidhin Valsan revealed that the deceased, Kumar Dhirendra Pratap Singh, came to the Vishal Mega Mart building in search of a job. Kumar got trapped in the elevator while the fire broke out in the departmental showroom. However, he reportedly died after he suffocated and couldn't breathe, following which, he collapsed after the fire engulfed the two stores. The fire broke out around 6:20 p.m. Police revealed:

"He was trapped in the elevator when the fire broke out in the departmental showroom. Initially, it was not clear if he had come to the showroom for job interview or at any other floor."

What happened in Karol Bagh Vishal Mega Mart?

Reportedly, around 6:20 p.m., the fire broke out on the second floor of the Vishal Mega Mart departmental store at Padam Singh Road in Karol Bagh, wherein groceries and fabrics were sold. It was mostly after 3 hours that the fire was taken under control. A total of 13 fire tenders were dispatched from the fire station to take the fire under control.

The main reason for the fire breakout was not revealed, but it was suspected that a short circuit might have caused this. However, the final reason could be determined only after forensic inspection. It also couldn't be revealed how many people were actually inside the store, however, police mentioned that one person was missing. An FIR was launched, and authorities have also launched a detailed probe to determine how the 25-year-old man, who died, got trapped in the lift.
