Music composer and playback singer, Vishal Dadlani isn't merely known for his soulful composition and vocals. The artist has also gained a reputation for bluntly sharing his opinion, be it good or bad. Most recently, Vishal took to his Instagram handle to slam a "basic-to-bad" singer who performed for a large audience in a now-deleted story. Although the singer didn't name anyone, netizens have speculated that his comments could be directed at Jasleen Royal, who opened for the globally renowned band Coldplay in Mumbai.
Vishal Dadlani took to his Instagram handle in the late hours of January 21, 2025, with a cryptic story lashing out at a "basic-to-bad singer" whom he did not name. Talking about how the artist's performance was embarrassing for themselves, the public, the entire country, and 'the scene,' Vishal penned:
"I'm really sorry, but when you put a basic-to-bad singer in front of a large crowd on a large stage, all you're doing is showing more people that the individual can't really sing, and that sadly, systems within labels in India aren't geared towards really promoting the best we have. I've just seen some clips, and my gosh… How embarrassing! For the Country, the artiste, the public, as well as "the scene."
While Vishal has deleted the story since then, netizens were quick to deduce that he could be referring to Jasleen Royal, who recently opened for Coldplay in Mumbai. For the spectacular show, Jasleen performed her soulful song, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. However, her performance of We Pray with Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, was the most iconic moment.
Jasleen later took to her Instagram handles with glimpses of her stage performance and rehearsals. For the evening, she donned a shimmery black outfit and added further oomph to her ensemble with smoky makeup and wavy hair. Sharing a snap of her and Chris performing together, Jasleen penned, "Thank you Mumbai, I love you."
Once netizens quickly identified that Vishal Dadlani was referring to Jasleen Royal, they started expressing their views on the subject. Many agreed with the former's opinion, stating that Jasleen's performance had indeed been subpar. One user penned, "Its harsh but I agree. Clips I've seen of Jasleen are quite embarassing tbh," while another wrote, "Jasleen was atrocious. How does she even get a gig is beyond me, such a horrible singer. Like what's with that baby voice she does?"

"Shah Rukh Khan forever."
This gesture was enough to send the crowd into a frenzy. The moment became extra special when thousands of fans flashed their phone lights that looked like stars, their cheers echoing across the stadium, making it a fitting tribute to the superstar.
