A love as profound as that of late Vikram Batra and his ladylove, Dimple Cheema, is quite hard to find nowadays. While Dimple used to await Captain Vikram Batra's return from his posting, she does that even today, 17 years after his death. For the unversed, Captain Vikram Batra, a.k.a., Sher Shah of Kargil War, had lost his life while rescuing one of his fellow soldiers at point 4875.
The undaunted spirit of Vikram Batra and his adamant attitude to never surrender to the terrorists had got him awarded with the highest wartime gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra, for his incredible role in the Kargil war. However, when the martyred had come back to his homeland, Palanpur, wrapped in tricolour, that was a heartbreaking moment for his family and girlfriend, Dimple Cheema.

In an interview with ETimes, late Captain Vikram Batra's twin brother, Vishal Batra spilt the beans on Vikram and Dimple's relationship. On being asked if Dimple Cheema was engaged to Vikram Batra, his brother refuted the reports and said that it is not right to goof up with someone's love story. He said, "Dimple and Vikram were not engaged. It hurts to read wrong reports in the media and I just hope that everyone who matters is reading this and does not do goof-ups in their write-ups hereafter. People who have written that she was his mangetar (fiancée) have just been silly."
Going further in the interview, Vishal Batra also shared that there were a few false reports in the media that identified any other girl as Dimple Cheema. Stating the same, he added, "I must clarify here that the picture of Dimple too that has been floating in the media, where it is claimed in a group picture that she's standing beside my brother- is not the correct one. That girl is his classmate and not Dimple."

Dimple Cheema has been creating some solid examples of true love through her decision to never marry again after Captain Vikram Batra's death. However, when Vishal Batra was asked in the interview if he had ever asked Dimple to get married and move ahead in her life, he confirmed the same. Vishal told the entertainment portal, "Yes, I did. Even my parents told her."
In an earlier interview with Quint, Dimple had stated an incident during which Vikram Batra had cut off his finger and filled her maang with blood. Dimple had explained, "On one of his visits, I raised the issue of marriage as I was feeling a bit insecure. Without saying anything, he took a blade out of his wallet, cut his thumb and filled my maang with his blood. That is the most cherished moment of my life to date. Then, later on, I used to tease him that he is pura filmy."
