Virender Sehwag is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the Indian history. Often compared to Sachin Tendulkar, Virender holds the record for the fastest triple hundred by balls in Test cricket. Sehwag is also the only Indian player to hit two triple-hundreds in Test cricket. Not just this, Virender has the record of scoring the most runs in ODI innings as a captain, when he hit 219 runs against West Indies.
Born into a Jat family, who hailed from Haryana, Virender and his family later moved to Delhi. It was in 1997-98 when Sehwag made his debut for the Delhi cricket team. Sehwag represented India from 1999 to 2013 and was regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of his era and the most destructive openers. In 2015, Sehwag retired from all forms of International cricket and is currently serving as a member of the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel of the National Anti-Doping Agency.
Just like his professional life, Virender’s personal life too is quite interesting as the celebrated cricketer got married to his distant relative, Aarti Ahlawat. Yes, you read that right. Today, let us read about Virender and Aarti’s love story.
Virender spent his childhood in a joint family with siblings, uncles, aunts and sixteen cousins. Sehwag met Aarti at the mere age of 7 years, while she was just 5, at a wedding ceremony. It was his cousin’s marriage to Aarti’s aunt. They played together at the wedding and became good friends. Though their cousins were married, Virender and Aarti became relatives, too.
Virender and Aarti used to meet occasionally at family get-togethers. Before they could realise it, the two fell in love with each other. After knowing Aarti for 14 long years, Sehwag decided to propose to her at the age of 21. She promptly said yes, and the duo dated for three years.

After three years of dating each other, Virender and Aarti decide to culminate their relationship into marriage. However, neither of their parents knew about their being together. When they broke the news at their respective homes, their parents were initially reluctant about their union. However, as time passed, they agreed.
Virender Sehwag and Aarti Ahlawat tied the knot on April 22, 2004, at former Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley’s bungalow in New Delhi under high security. The wedding, which took place in Haryanvi style, was strictly a private affair with no media presence allowed. In fact, guests had to present their invitation to enter the venue.
Many renowned personalities from sports, Bollywood and politics attended Sehwag and Aarti's wedding. After the high-security wedding, a grand reception was hosted at a five-star hotel in New Delhi. In 2007, they welcomed their first child and named him Aryavir. Later, in 2010, they welcomed another son and named him Vedant.
For the past many months, there have been speculations that everything is not going well in Virender and Aarti’s paradise. The rumours began when the couple was hardly spotted with each other. The speculations got more mileage when Virender and Aarti stopped liking each other’s social media posts and even unfollowed one another on Instagram. Aarti also celebrated her birthday with Virender and was accompanied by her family. On the other hand, Virender didn’t post any wishes for her on social media.
What are your thoughts on the rumours of Virender Sehwag and Aarti Ahlawat’s separation? Let us know.
