Virat Kohli and his entire Royal Challengers Bengaluru team are celebrating the first win in the IPL. It came after seventeen years of constant struggle. While everyone has been praising and rooting for Virat Kohli, the face of RCB, the cricketer made sure to express appreciation for 32-year-old Rajat Patidar, whose captainship the team lifted the IPL trophy.
RCB won the IPL 2025 after defeating Preity Zinta's team, Punjab Kings, in the finals. The team showed its calibre by winning nine out of the fourteen league matches. The team defeated the Punjab Kings twice, first in the qualifier and then in the finals. Ever since the IPL started in 2008, RCB has been one of the teams that has not won any season, but their wish to lift the trophy came true in 2025. Meanwhile, Virat had an emotional outburst after witnessing the moment.
However, not a lot of credit is being given to RCB's 32-year-old captain, Rajat Patidar, who joined the rare list of captains who lifted the trophy in their first captainship year. After Faf du Plessis was dropped from the captainship role, Rajat, who strategically took on his duty, was given the responsibility of leading the team.
Virat Kohli, who was the happiest of all, with Rajat's way of leading the team, and gifted him his bat. He called it the best moment of his cricket career. Virat praised him in the dressing room and stated that he had a huge turnaround from injury replacement. Virat was quoted as saying:
"What a turnaround. Injury replacement to IPL winning captain."
Virat further expressed how it was difficult to explain the feeling as he still cannot believe it. However, he added that he would be able to feel it when he would visit Bengaluru and celebrate it with the city and their countless fans. Virat said:

"Very difficult to explain, man. I think I am going to feel the real side of it when we get to Bengaluru tomorrow, and celebrate it with the city and the fans who have stood with us through thick and thin. So I am just relieved. Full bunch of match winners. People stepping up at different stages and putting their hands up to get the job done for the team. To have that hunger and confidence in them. This guy, local lad [points to Mayank Agarwal] comes in place of Dev [dutt Padikkal]. You could see they wear that badge with pride… of RCB. That can never go away from a Bengaluru boy and yeah, this guy was special."
Mayank Agarwal interrupted him and told Virat that he was also a Bengaluru boy as he had played for the team for past 18 years. He said:
"Sorry to cut you off. You playing for Bengaluru for 18 years, I can tell you one thing. You are as much a Bengaluru boy as anybody else. I am sure you have an idea but tomorrow and the coming days, you will really experience the love of this city."
