Virat Kohli made 76 runs in 59 balls, which paved the way for India to win the World Champions trophy. However, when he was declared as the 'man of the match,' the player announced his retirement from the T20 international cricket. While speaking to the broadcast just after the win, Virat Kohli shared that it was his last T20 World Cup, and it's all he wanted to achieve. He also called this a 'now and never kind of situation' and added that it was the last T20I game that he played for India. Virat can be quoted as saying:
"This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup."
Talking about the same, Virat mentioned that it's an open secret and added that he would announce it even if Team India would have not won the match. Virat revealed that it's time for the next generation to take forward the game, and it's been long for him and Rohit. He shared that it was his sixth and Rohit's ninth T20 World Cup, and the latter truly deserved this. Virat can be quoted as saying:
"Yes I have [announced my retirement from T20Is], this was an open secret. It was not something that I wasn't going to announce even if we had lost. It's time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward. It's been a long wait for us, waiting to win an ICC tournament. You look at someone like Rohit, he's played nine T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it."

Since when Anushka Sharma gave birth to Akaay in the UK, rumours have been rife that the couple might settle there. On the other hand, Virat might subtly confirm this. While talking to RCB during IPL 2024, Virat talked about his retirement plans. He mentioned that he would want to have a long break after he announces his retirement and wouldn't want to have any regrets about anything. Virat also stated that when he would be gone, no one would be able to see him for even a while, which was possibly a hint of moving abroad.
