Vinod Kambli's Wife, Andrea Hewitt Filed For Divorce But Took It Back, Says 'He Will Be Helpless'

Vinod Kambli was once a popular star in the world of Indian cricket known for his flamboyant style and aggressive batting approach. He played as a left-handed middle-order batsman and made several important records. But, gradually, his fame faded, and he began facing health and financial issues. In a recent interview, his wife, Andrea Hewitt, shared that she had considered leaving the cricketer and filed for a divorce in 2023. However, she took back her decision, and the reason behind it left everyone stunned.

Vinod Kambli kept his family away from the limelight, but certain incidents from his personal life have made headlines over the years. In a recent interview with freelance journalist, Suryanshi Pandey on his podcast, his wife, Andrea Hewitt, revealed that she had filed for divorce from the cricketer in 2023 due to his habit of excessive alcohol consumption and its impact on their relationship and family. 

However, Andrea admitted that she has always been concerned for Vinod, and after witnessing his recent health struggles, she knows he would be 'helpless' without her. For those unaware, Vinod Kambli has been suffering from multiple health issues in the last few years and was again admitted to the hospital for treatment in December 2024. Explaining her concern, Andrea said:

"He will be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, but he is more than that. I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay? Then I had to check on him, and I would understand that he needed me."

Vinod and Andrea married in 2006 and have two children: a son, Jesus Christiano Kambli, and a daughter, Johanna. In the same interview, Andrea explained that it has been difficult to look after her kids and manage her husband's health. She mentioned that most of the time, she has to remind herself that she is playing the role of both mother and father to their kids. Meanwhile, Christiano, who also appeared in the podcast, admitted that he is often concerned about his mother's mental health. In his words: 

"I just tried to understand the situation. I try to look after her mental health and try to cheer her up. I also take care of him (father)."

Vinod Kambli was married to Noella Lewis earlier, but the duo soon parted ways after marriage. Later, in 2000, he saw Andrea's photo, who was an established fashion model, on a billboard, and the couple began dating. They married in 2006 in a private ceremony in a civil court, and he even converted to Christianity. 

After their marriage, the couple gradually faced troubles due to Vinod's excessive alcohol consumption habits. In 2023, Andrea even filed complaints accusing her husband of throwing the handle of a cooking pan at her in a 'drunken state' that left her with a head injury. But, despite challenges, the former model has stood by her husband through thick and thin. She was seen recently helping her husband walk at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Wankhede Stadium, organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association. At the event, Vinod was facilitated by Sunil Gavaskar, and Andrea's support for Vinod impressed netizens.
