Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat is all over the news as she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 after being overweight by 100 grams. She was the first-ever Indian woman to reach the Olympic wrestling final. During her stint in the Olympics 2024, she defeated World No. 1 Yui Susaki in the opening round, leaving everyone amazed. However, Vinesh Phogat felt dejected after her chance to win gold was taken away from her, and on August 8, 2024, she announced her retirement from wrestling on social media.
In her heart-wrenching note, Vinesh Phogat expressed her emotions about her retirement from wrestling and dedicated the note to her mother. She penned that wrestling won against her, and now, her dreams and courage are shattered. The wrestler mentioned that she doesn't have any more strength now, so she is bidding goodbye to wrestling. Asking for forgiveness, Vinesh penned:

"Maa, kushti mere se jeet gayi, main haar gayi. Maaf karna, aapka sapna, meri himmat sab toot chuke. Isse zyada taqat nahi rahi ab. Alvida kushti (2001-2024)."

On the second day of the competition, Vinesh Phogat was found ineligible to compete as she was 100 grams overweight during the weigh-in round. Moreover, though Vinesh's team put in their best efforts the previous night, the wrestler missed the weight on August 7, 2024, leading to her disqualification from the final. This was a major setback to the wrestler, who worked hard to represent India at the International sports event.
Moreover, Vinesh Phogat was rushed to the hospital due to severe dehydration. After she fainted, she had to be taken to a polyclinic at the Games village. A report in India Today revealed that the wrestler worked out the whole night to shed weight. She took desperate measures to lose the extra kilos. Vinesh stayed hungry, avoided fluids, and stayed up all night to sweat it out. She even cut her hair short to reduce excess weight. But nothing worked.

After getting discharged from the hospital, Vinesh Phogat approached the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and appealed against her disqualification from the wrestling final. She also demanded that she should be awarded a joint silver medal, after being forced out for being 100 gm overweight. However, her plea was to no avail, as her disqualification continued.
