Vindu Dara Singh Recalls His Father's Advice On Interfaith Marriage, Talks About Ex-Wife, Farah Naaz

Vindu Dara Singh recently recalled his father, the late Dara Singh's advice on marrying someone from a different religion. He shared details about his first marriage with Farah Naaz.

Vindu Dara Singh is a prominent face in the Indian entertainment industry. The actor debuted in the glamour world with the 1994 film, Karan. He rose to popularity with his role as ‘Hanuman’ in the TV show, Jai Veer Hanuman and Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana. Vindu even won the third season of the popular reality TV show, Bigg Boss in 2009. In his personal life, the actor married Bollywood actress, Tabu’s sister, Farah Naaz, in 1996 and then welcomed their son, Fateh Randhawa, in 1987. Unfortunately, Vindu and Farah parted ways in 2002. He then got married for the second time to Dina Umarova in 2006, and the two are parents to a daughter.

Recently, Vindu Dara Singh appeared on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel and discussed various facets of his life. He even talked about his divorce from his first wife, Farah Naaz, and revealed that his father, the late Dara Singh had advised him to think twice before marrying a girl from a different religion. Recalling what his father had said, Vindu said:

“Always…Jo bhi vo kehte the sahi hota tha. I remember I was in love with Farah, and we were going to get married and Dad said, ‘Vindu sochle acchi tarah. Love tak to thik hai, par shaadi jab hoti hai…When it's different religions—Hindu and Muslim—jab shadi hoti hai it's a little hard. I said, ‘Ni dad kuch hard nahi hai because we were both in love and we didn't care much about religion.'”

Vindu Dara Singh mentions that religion can sometimes change equations

Further in the conversation, Vindu added that he later realised that his dad’s thoughts were correct in this case. He also said that when religion comes into the picture, equations change. Vindu also said that if, going forward, one out of the two in a relationship becomes religious, then the other faces significant problems. He said:

“But aagey chalke you realise that what dad has said was right. When religion comes into the picture things change, equations change. Tabhi hum bolte hain Hindu aur Muslim mein shadi karna theek nahi hai. Agar agey chalkar koi ek bhi zada religious hogaya to dusre ko problem aa jati hai because they were born in that religion.”

Vindu Dara Singh added that his marriage with Farah Naaz had both pros and cons. The actor mentioned that he got his fantastic son, Fateh because of his first marriage. Vindu also reminisced about the lovely memories he had with Farah and revealed that he has been friends with her. Talking about how his father’s opinion about his marriage still strikes him, Vindu further added:

“Vo dad ki baat mujhe aaj bhi strike hoti hai. But I have a beautiful, fantastic son from that marriage, and I have lovely memories with her, which I cherish. We are friends. And I have the best son; I couldn't get anything better than that. Fateh is a darling. Iske pros and cons dono ho gaye. Ek to dad ki baat, and jo 4-5 sal maine Farah ke sath bitaaye the, they were brilliant.”

Vindu Dara Singh recalls how his ex-wife, Farah Naaz changed after performing Hajj

Further into the conversation, Vindu revealed that his ex-wife, Farah, never cared about religion and even used to smoke when none of his family members ever held a cigarette. However, after going for Hajj, which is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Vindu recalled that his ex-wife turned into a completely different woman, after which things started to go downhill for the ex-couple. He recalled:

“When we met she never cared about her religion. She also used to smoke. No one else in our family used to smoke. I used to ask her to quit smoking. But one day, she said to me ‘You send for Hajj then I will quit smoking.' I was like what is the big thing in that? I made all the settings and sent her for Hajj. When she came back from Hajj, she was a completely different woman. Everything about her was changed. From there, things started to go downhill. But it is ok.” 

Vindu Dara Singh reveals he didn’t meet with his son, Fateh for six months after his divorce

The actor also said that his ex-wife did not let him meet their son, Fateh for six months after their divorce. Moreover, Vindu said that he forgets things easily, and at present, the two have no bitterness between them. He even heaped praises on Farah saying that she has been a wonderful mother.
