With his recent successful films, 12th Fail and Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba, Vikrant Massey is winning the audience’s hearts and increasing his fanbase. From doing odd jobs and living the life of a middle-class boy to now being one of the most popular actors in B-Town, Vikrant Massey has come a long way in his career and life. However, recently, the actor revealed that he has been facing threats for his role in the upcoming film The Sabarmati Report.
Recently, the trailer of Vikrant Massey's film The Sabarmati Report, based on the Godhara event in Gujarat, was made public. The film was produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Dheeraj Sarna. It also stars Ridhi Dogra. Massey plays a journalist in the film. During the trailer event, he stated that 'as an artist, his responsibility is to convey stories'. He also disclosed that he received threats for his role in the film.
When questioned about the threats during The Sabarmati Report trailer launch, Massey stated that threats had been received and were still coming in. He went on to say that he and the rest of the team were working together to handle it. He said:
"I have been receiving threats. Without drawing attention to it, it is something which I am dealing with and we, as a team, collectively are dealing with."
Vikrant clarified that this film is entirely fact-based, but as artists, they tell stories. Since the movie hasn't been released yet, he said, it would be unjust to assume that it only addresses one side, particularly in relation to the Gujarat riots that followed the incident. In his words:
“But we are artists and we tell stories. This film is purely based on facts. Unfortunately, you have not seen the film so you should not make a preconceived notion that it is talking about only one facet."
When Vikrant Massey was asked why he decided to board the movie, given that there are many facets to the story. Ektaa Kapoor said she would answer the question on his behalf. She said:
"This is not just the one facet, but the first facet. So, we are telling the genesis of this first facet without undermining the other facets. Unfortunately, this facet, how it all started, has not been reported enough."
The teaser already captivated the audience. But the trailer delves deeper, revealing the little-known facts of the February 27, 2002, horrific event aboard The Sabarmati Express and its significant sociocultural effects.
The trailer begins with Vikrant Massey's portrayal of a journalist who speaks Hindi and is keen to establish himself in the media. His life changes drastically when his senior, Dogra, allegedly hides the terrible realities he encountered while covering the Godhra train disaster. After that, he struggles with substance abuse, but when another reporter comes forward to give his side of the tale, his life changes once more. The movie seeks to offer a fresh perspective on the event, which has impacted many lives but has rarely been examined.
Additionally, the trailer highlights the ideological divide between Hindi-speaking grassroots journalists and their English-speaking counterparts. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 15, 2024.
