Vikrant Massey's Family Friend Clive Kunder Was Co-Pilot Of Ill-Fated Air India Plane, Dies In Crash

Vikrant Massey knew Clive Kunder, who was the first operating pilot of the Air India flight, which crashed in Ahmedabad right after take off.

India experienced an ill-fated day after it witnessed one of the worst aviation crashes on June 12, 2025. What started as a journey to London's Gatwick Airport turned into a fatal tragedy, claiming more than 240 lives, including those of passengers and people at the crash site. It has brought the spotlight on everything related to Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, its two pilots and other passengers on board who had planned to seemingly leave for a promising journey in London. Everyone from celebrities to common people have extended their condolences at the heartbreaking incident, and among others, Vikatnt Massey's condolence post has become the talk of the town.

Vikrant Massey took to his Instagram stories and shared a note to express his condolences to the families of those deceased in the Ahmedabad plane crash. However, his next line caught attention when he revealed that his family friend and uncle, Clifford Kunder, had also been affected by the incident which claimed his son's life. The actor mentioned that his uncle's son, Clive Kunder, was the first officer on the ill-fated Air India flight. In his words:

"My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder… May God give strength to you and your family, uncle, and all deeply affected."

For those unaware, there were two experienced pilots on Air India Boeing 787-8, which crashed in Meghaninagar minutes after its take-off. The captain onboard, Sumeet Sabharwal, had an experience of 8,200 hours of flying. Whereas first Officer, Clive Kunder, who assisted Captain, Sumeet, had a flying experience of 1,100 hours. On the other hand, the flight had 10 more cabin crew members onboard.

Former CM Vijay Rupani died in a fatal crash, one passenger survived

Among the 169 Indian passengers on the ill-fated Air India flight, one was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was reportedly travelling to meet his wife and daughter. His last photo from the flight surfaced on the internet, and Gujarat BJP Chief had confirmed his demise. On the other hand, only one survivor was reported from the deadly crash, which was nothing short of a miracle. His name is Ramesh Vishvaskumar. He was seated near the emergency exit at 11A and was admitted to the hospital for his treatment.

More about Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad 

Air India flight AI171, which was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at noon. It was around 1:38 PM, and within 18 minutes, while trying to ascend the flight suddenly began to descend and crashed into a medical college's hostel in Meghaninagar. Since medical students were having lunch in their mess, five students lost their lives, and more than 40 are being treated for their injuries in the hospital.
