One of the most important movies for actor, Vikrant Massey was 12th Fail. He had got the break he deserved and had given a blockbuster movie as a pivotal lead star. The Balika Vadhu actor, got a lot of love for his role in the Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie and is now all set for Ranjan Chandel’s, The Sabarmati Report. The actor plays a journalist who Raashi Khanna and Nidhi Dogra join to find the truth behind the 2002 Godhra incident. However, the actor is currently being slammed, and his secularisation is being questioned because of his association with the project.

Vikrant Massey's next offering, The Sabarmati Report is creating a lot of anticipation. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on Unplugged, the actor addressed the criticisms of why people questioned his secularism. He narrated personal incidents and said that even his brother converted. Addressing the criticisms directly, Vikrant said:

"My parents had an inter-caste marriage, so did I. My brother even converted to another religion. What could be more secular than that? A truly secular person stands by others regardless of religion, caste, or background."

Vikrant Massey revealed that his value system did not change

The Sabarmati Report, movie has been backed by Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, Ektaa R Kapoor and Anshul Mohan. Vikrant, further revealed that his values never changed and that he had always seen himself as a liberal person who was embracing diversity rather than being an extremist. When the actor was asked about his secularism, he said that he believed in living together and respecting each other’s culture while taking pride in his own. He believed in understanding and not labelling everything in binaries, and his approach to secularism had more to do with accepting other religions and not belittling anyone.

Vikrant Massey's brother converted to Islam at the age of 17

The actor, in a chat with Youtube channel Unfiltered by Samdish, had shared that his brother's name was Moin and he had accepted Islam at the age of 17. This was a very big step. His parents did not stop him from doing this even once. However, his relatives had objected. However, Vikrant's parents had given Moin the choice to make his own decisions. The actor had also said, that he had seen his family follow different religions. In his words:

"My father is Christian and my mother is Sikh. So since childhood I have seen people following different religions in my house. In such a situation, I was deeply thinking that what is religion? I have seen debates about this religion since childhood. Then I realized that all these are made by humans.''
