While his professional life is going gaga, his recently released web series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, has been receiving a lot of public hate for meddling with the facts. For the uninitiated, the web series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, stars Vijay Varma in the lead. It is based on the true events of a 1999 Indian passenger flight that was hijacked by terrorists belonging to a terror group in Pakistan.
Vijay Varma's web series created a huge controversy as the makers named the terrorists 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'. While the show is based on the shocking hijack- incident, netizens pointed out how the terrorists were identified as changed names and accused the director, Anbhuav Sinha, of meddling with the facts. Let us inform you that the 1999 incident was the longest hijack in the history of India.

The hijackers demanded the freedom of militants in the capture of India in exchange for the passengers on the flight. After the incident, it was revealed that the five hijackers were identified as Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir, and they were from a Pakistan-based terrorist group.
But in the show, the terrorists were identified as 'Bhola' and 'Shankar'. This left the netizens extremely hurt on social media platform, X. Someone pointed out that if terrorism has no name, then why have they changed the name? Someone even shared how cinematic people are best in white-washing. One user wrote, "Terrorists were named 'Shankar' & 'Bhola'. Agar aatankwad ka koi mazhab nahi hota to naam change kyu kiye bhai?"
The second one commented, "Shame on @anubhavsinha for naming the hijackers as Shankar and Bhola! All the hijackers were Muslim terrorists." A third user wrote, "#Netflix India become fake story peddler pakistan militant sympathizer. 5 guys who #IC814TheKandaharHijack were Ibrahim Akhtar (from Bahawalpur), Shahid Akhtar Sayeed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry (from Karachi) and Shakir (from Sukkur)."

For those who don't know, it is Anubhav Sinha's debut web series, and it stars Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, and Patralekhaa in the lead. The show also includes veteran actors, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, and Arvind Swamy. In media interactions, Anubhav said the series differs from earlier narratives given in the past 25 years.
Vijay Varma started his acting career as a theatre artist. He is a postgraduate from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. After that, the actor moved to Mumbai and started his journey with the 2012 film Chittagong. He has been part of Mirzapur and Lust Stories, which received a lot of love and appreciation from the fans.
It is worth mentioning that the makers have yet to release their side of the story despite the huge public outcry.
