Vijay Sethupathi Once Rejected Romancing Krithi Shetty In A Film, Netizens Praise Him Due To This

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the hugely loved pan-Indian actors. After showing his impeccable performances in South-Indian films such as Super Deluxe, 96, Uppena, Vikram Vedha, and many others, in 2023, Vijay made his entry into the OTT world with Farzi, starring Shahid Kapoor and others. The actor then also appeared in Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster hit, Jawan, and in Merry Christmas, co-starring Katrina Kaif. However, in his prolific acting career over the years, he had also rejected working with a few actors and actresses in some films, one of which has appeared in Reddit recently.

Now, a Reddit user pointed to the time when Vijay Sethupathi rejected a film opposite Krithi Shetty due to some reasons. For the unversed, Krithi made her acting debut with the film, Uppena, wherein she played the role of Vijay Sethupathi's daughter. Afterwards, Krithi also gave some stunning performances in Nani's Shyam Singha Roy and Naga Chaitanya's Bangarraju, among others. However, when Vijay was offered a role opposite Krithi in their second film, he refused to collaborate. Sharing the post, atop it, the Reddit user mentioned:

"Vijay Sethupathi rejected film opposite Krithi Setty. He said, 'I consider her as my daughter and I can never romance her onscreen'."

Addressing the same, while promoting his 2021 action film, Laabam, in a conversation with News Buzz, Vijay revealed that the makers of the film wanted to pair him with Krithi in the same. However, Vijay wasn't comfortable about it as he played the role of her father in their previous film. Moreover, Vijay mentioned that he considers Krithi to be his daughter. Thus, even after keeping aside their age gap, he can't romance Krithi on-screen. After Vijay refused Krithi, Shruti Haasan was roped in opposite him. Vijay said:

"While I was shooting for Labham, the makers said they were planning to rope in Krithi Shetty for the female lead role in the film. At that time, Uppena was in the making as well. In Uppena, Krithi Shetty played my daughter. Incidentally, the makers of Laabam were contemplating the idea of roping in Krithi Shetty for the female lead role to act alongside me. But I immediately turned down their advancements. How can I romance an actress who is playing my daughter in a film that is also shot simultaneously? This would have been such an awkward experience. I rejected the prospect of Krithi Shetty playing my love interest in Laabam."

As soon as the Redditor pointed out Vijay's revelation on the discussion platform, many netizens started praising him. Many others also compared him with Bollywood actors. One social media user wrote, "SRK(57) playing a 30yr old , romancing Nayanthara (39) and having Ridhi Dogra (39) play his mother." Another netizen penned, "Sadly, there aren't many who could do this and even say this!"

Vijay Sethupathi once talked about his disbelief at learning his pairing opposite to Katrina Kaif

In an interaction with Brut, Vijay Sethupathi narrated the time when he learnt being paired opposite to Katrina Kaif in the film, Merry Christmas. The actor confessed to being doubtful initially since he was sure he wouldn’t look good with her on-screen. Further, he revealed a series of shocked reactions that he received from many people who thought that he might have a guest appearance in the film. Vijay said:

“I was shocked because everybody had that question. When I first told them that I am doing a Sriram Raghavan sir’s film, they said, “okay, very good, superb!” And (then I said) I am doing it with Katrina Kaif, so they said, ‘Is yours a guest role? Is it a heroine centric film?’. Everybody knows Katrina. It was a shock for me also. Like how is it going to be in the film, everybody’s asking, ‘how is this pair on screen?’. The same way I also have that fear and the doubt.”
