Varun Sood, the MTV heartthrob and fitness icon, recently shared an inspiring slice of his life, reflecting on his school days when he used to be an introverted and overweight kid. The model and actor became popular for his impressive stints in reality shows on MTV such as Roadies X2, Splitsvilla 9, Ace of Space 1 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 11.
In a recent interaction with Humans of Bombay, Varun Sood opened up about his childhood days and reflected on his impressive transformation from being an overweight and introverted kid who was bullied a lot, to becoming a fitness sensation. The Call Me Bae actor recalled that he did not have many friends and was bullied a lot. However, something changed when he dunked his first basketball in the tenth grade. Varun shared:
“Growing up as an overweight kid, I was bullied a lot. So as a result, I kept to myself; I barely had friends. But then one day in tenth class, I dunked a basket for the first time, and that’s where I found my place in basketball. With every competition I took part in, with every tournament I won, I made more friends and became more confident of myself.”
With every tournament win, Varun not only excelled as an athlete but also found his footing socially. Despite coming from an army family, Varun dared to dream of a different career for himself. Reflecting on his transformation, Varun remarked:
“The ‘introverted’ Varun was now the school’s star player. I began participating more - in sports, on stage… everywhere! Soon I went from ‘Papa ki tarah army officer banunga’ to ‘kuch hatke karunga’. And one day, an opportunity presented itself - my friend told me about the MTV Roadies auditions. I thought, ‘Try kar lete hai!’”
Fast forward to today, Varun has shared screen space with the iconic actress, Raveena Tandon, and got attractive offers to work in cinema, web series and as hosts in shows like MTV Campus Diaries and Reality Ranis of the Jungle. He was also seen sharing the screen with Ananya Panday on the popular web series, Call Me Bae. In his conversation with Humans of Bombay, the actor reflected on his transformation journey with a whole lot of gratitude. He was quoted as saying:
“Today as I walk down the street and kids come to me and say, ‘Varun bhai, ek autograph doge?’ or just stop to chat for a while… I can’t help but think of the shy 10-year-old Varun. I just want to give that boy the tightest hug and tell him, ‘We did well!’”
On his professional front, Varun Sood was last seen starring alongside Ananya Panday in Call Me Bae, and later in the television series, Naam Namak Nishan. The actor is gearing up for his upcoming work, season two of the series, Call Me Bae.
